Has anyone out there ever tried fox body shorty headers in a II ??? I think they would work, and be easier to hook up than full length headers . I am not about to pay close to $ 400.00 for hookers and I do not like the heddmans under the crossmember.

Hookers new for $ 175.00 WOW !!! I have had Hooker Super Comp's before, are they thin ?? I wish I could find a set of blackjacks-We should all get together and ask Dynomax( they took over the blackjack name) to make headers again. My heddmans hit or rub on everything But the steering.

Well, I got a set of shorties for an 82-3 Fox set. Ill sell em to ya if you wanna try. But the mere fact that they are for sale might say something.

Once again, it all comes back to money. I can have headers made at any time for the II, but they will easily cost 4-500 bucks. This is a low volume niche of cars and unless you are making 10,000 sets, you aren't going to get a cheap priced header. If people don't want to pay the $400 for the Hookers, then they aren't going to pay $400 for the ones I can have made.

BTW, in the world of headers, you get what you pay for. A set of $120 headers is going to have thin 18 or 20 gauge steel, thin flanges, and poor fit. A good quality header with proper materials and fit will cost you a LOT more. Most of the headers I install nowadays are $600-$900 a set. And these are mass produced off the shelf, not custom made. But the fit and materials are far superior, and the vehicle owners never have to worry about leaks, or them rotting off the car.

I do not doubt that custom headers would be nice, BUT what I am getting at is the hookers I had on my pro streeter were so thin you could practically bend them with your bare hands. I do not believe these would last long in a real street environment! Therefore I choose not to pay that kind of money for them. I have the money ,but I also hate paying for a NAME. I will suffer with the heddmans for now . thanks everyone

Thanks ,but no thanks. I have a stock set off of an Explorer, but they look too restrictive so I never tried em'. I was just interested in the equal length big tube shorties for like $ 239.00 not $ 400.00

Honestly, who can afford $600-900 for a set of headers? You must have some wealthy clientele. If I ever own a set of custom made headers it'll be because I custom made them. Nobody else works on my car. That's why this forum exists.

Read your horsepower books, short tube headers never make as much power as long tube headers. The Hookers are your best option and occassionally you see them on e-bay for $150-250. I raided the cookie jar and paid $300 for mine brand new straight from Summit. They are really good headers and fit the II well.

Look into Perfomance Automotive Warehouse (P.A.W) They sell the MII headers there. The Hedman's are listed for $119....I don't remember what they wanted for the hooker's....but they have them too.

Are those headers hard to find? and do they have any problems or conflict with anything?

Blackjacks have been obsolete for some time now and I heard they were bought out by Dynomax a long time ago. I also heard that Dynomax stopped making them. I had a set of these in my first II with a C4 setup and they fit great. I do remember the drivers side header pointed in a funny direction, but I corrected that with a baseball bat (as a pry tool) once they were bolted down tight. I can not say if they will work with a stock 4 speed bell and it would be tough if not inpossible to install the passanger side if you happen to have a fox bell and T-5. I did like those headers and I say they would be fairly hard to find in my opinion.

I got a set of the dynomax headers off of ebay last year, drivers side went in easy, Passenger side is another story- still running the stock manifold on that side till I get my brother's butt in gear, and get the engine hoist away from him and his firebird. I didn't want to be half-baked and beat my fender well in to get it around the RAD bellhousing. Figured it would go in with the engine as a whole a lot easier.

Jeff, How are those Hookers? Do you have stock heads? I have Blackjacks but they leak like crazy on the passenger side. The're not so great with the after market heads.

I ran hookers on my 306. They fit great. The only exhaust leakage was from where one or two of the tubes slipped together, which I was probably supposed to weld.
