Mustang Lesson/DYNO RESULTS

one of my buddies put down 204 in his 98GT with BBK shory headers, x pipe and a cold air thru a 5 speed...

its also possible that your tranny or tq converter is worn and sucking power... its also possible that your rings could be worn and your not getting full compression...

Really not sure why your number would be seem to be to be low, although you are getting feedback that they are not much off and taking into account that you have an auto compared to my manual shift run on a different dyno. We do have a similiar setup although I don't have a tune and my mid pipe still has the (high flow) cats, which should gain you hp compared to my setup.

Again, though what DropTopPony said is really what matters that Dynos are meant not for just the numbers, but to help tune your car to get the most out of it and see if the parts you installed make a positive or neg difference. Dyno charts taken from different physical dynos can be reliably compared. If it feels better, and helps you keep up with the crowd better, that's really all that matters.

I'm running mine tomorrow for the first time ever at Atco raceway tomorrow to see what kine of 1/4 mile numbers. I'm a track virgin, so I don't expect my time to be anything that great, but hope to be respectable.

My compression is fine, we had to do a compression test when installing the cams/manifold to rule that out as a reason for it running so crappy (turned out to be 2 plug wires were mixed up).

Did your friends 98GT have PI cams/manifold/(heads) too? If not I find it hard to believe a NPI mustang put down 204 to the wheels with just headers, xpipe and cold air...

Also Hi-Flow cats only take about 2HP away so O/R vs Hi Flow isn't TOO big of a difference.

Why is that? A 5 sp will put down 190rwhp stock...so 14hp increase isn't that much especially considering we generally gain @ 10hp from ditching our stock mid pipes.

You have an auto and they will read up to 10% less then a 5 sp...
Throw a nice TC and do the Jmod and you won't have a problem with the extra 10-15hp a manual will dyno.

I thought they put down closer to like 180-185  thats 215FWHP W/15% drivetrain loss.

Either way I think for now I'm at the point that this car is just a waste of time/money to put more "go fast" stuff into because it'll still be slow. I'll just keep saving for the Cobra and hopefully not do something stupid money-wise between the $2000 I have now and the $15000+ I'll need :p

if it was off just right it coulda caused some serious pinging but you woulda heard that and there would be a lot of smoke from a hole in your piston or something...

i was reffering to another dyno since you found that they were crossed.

Ah no all that crap was found and fixed last fall. Dynotune was last weekend...The wires were only crossed for a total of about an hours run time IF that. We'd turn it on, put it in gear, and it'd start missing hardcore and we knew something was wrong. Did that for about 4 days before we found out how dumb we are haha. That's long in the past though.

Are your #'s SAE, or STD or uncorrected? If they are SAE or STD corrected, your numbers are low, if uncorrected well they might not be...

What octane of fuel are you running?

There is a little bit of power to be had in your tune though.

With what I know about a Mustang's drivetrain, a stock 99 - 04 Auto GT should be making around 217 RWHP SAE corrected. A stock 96 - 97 Auto GT should be making around 180 RWHP SAE corrected. If you numbers are SAE corrected, you gained approx 24 RWHP.
