mustang manual transmission fluid

I changed my mustang transmission fluid about a year ago with castrol atf mercon fluid. It was red when I put it in. Today I drained a little and it was gray. Is this normal after only one year?

I changed my tranny fluid a few days ago for the first time. About 4qts came out, so it was the old recommended fill level, so it's been in there a while, probably since it was new 60,000 miles ago. It came out cherry red.

Mine also came out cherry red after 45,000 km (~28,000 miles). Stock fluid - whatever Ford uses as OEM.

Someone probably used gear oil and the ATF is picking up and mixing with the gear oil.

The oil should have been red. If you didn't do the fill and it wasn't OEM, something was wrong.
