mustang tranny tilted to one side, are they suppose to be like this?

hey, putting the engine back in my mustang as one peice, but i notice that the tranny is tilted to one side, if i measure to the cement floor to the drivers side exhaust hanger in the tranny its like 29 inches, but the drivers side is 30 inches, you can see that it is tilted on the passenger side ,higher on the passenger than drivers side, motor mounts are bolted down, also doubble hump crossmember is bolted down too, si i cant really see there being a problem, but they all must be like this ah?

How were the motor mounts? one more worn than the other?

On my Energy Suspension ones I have some free play meaning I could loosen the 3 nuts and shift the motor around and tighten the 3 nuts down again and it would be in a different spot, it aint much but it's something. I would try loosening the motor mount clamshell nuts and tranny mount nuts real loose and reposition everything square and tighten the nuts.......if you got the stock motor mounts then I have no idea...

Check the motor mounts. The trans sits level with the engine, so if the trans is tilted, the engine is tilted too

ya, it looks like the engine is sitting good, its just the tranny that seems to be tilted, umm i put mounts from a 86 gt onto my 85 gt, but they are all the same right? is it possible they might be on backwards?

SHould be the same. Is the tranny bolted secure? What are you using to base the tranny being level? The flat mount where the x-member bolts to?

is the concrete level? lol. Id say as long as the tranny doesnt hit the tunnel anywhere and has some clearance, it fine. You said your motor mounts and crossmember bolts were all tight. Unless its drastically off, i wouldnt be worried.

This is absolutely the motor mounts....same problem i have right now. Somehow my engine is just not sitting right in the K member and it's causing the trans to roll over to the passenger side too far and the shifter hits the floor.

Unfortunately i don't really know what to tell ya. On mine you would think just loosen the mounts from the K and straight it up until the shifter is centered...which i did, but the driver's side mount won't go down any further than it is so i don't really know how to fix it.

was looking today and i cant access the 2 front bolts holding the shifter in place. shouldent you be able to remove the 4 bolts in the shifter inside of the car?

you should be able to remove the 2 front bolts.you won't be able to put a socket on them but you should be able to use a wrench to remove/install them.they will sit just under the floor pan.

o.k well i cant even see them, and also they are touching the trans tunnel, dont know hom im gonna fix this problem

without more information on the car this may be a shot in the dark.

If you have a pre T5 car and it had a T5 installed you could use the stock SROD bell housing which would set the T-5 at a tilt. I had this for a while in my 82 Capri then i got a T-5 bell housing several years later.
