Yeah the subaru is compared to a Cobra, but it's not. Hotrod has the 1/4 mile of the sti @ 13.29. Muscle Mustangs & FF have the Cobra (convertible) @ 12.77! The same article has the Mach 1 @ 13.156, and a stock GT (automatic) @ 14.095. The GT would have been much better if standard. The STI is pretty fast but it's no Mustang. It's an eysore as well.

Those times are way off for the STi. That driver must have been terrible. It's in the low to mid 12's now problem.

sup fellas, my dad got an evo 8 a few months ago and all i can say is DAMN...i havent really had the chance to race it (me in my stang and my bro in the evo) but i must say that the evo is quick..the turbo doesnt start to spool till around 3500 rpm, but launching at 6000 rpm will provide a HELLUVA launch and have you spooling right when you hit second gear...i just got done driving the evo and even though my stang feels faster (torquey), when that turbo kicks in that car just flys! anyway when i get around to racing it from a roll and a stop i will post what happens...

ON THE OTHER HAND, one of my brothers friend got a new M3 recently (with the automatic upgrade) and we raced a few times. i havent really read up on the M3's features but i guess you can configure the tranny to hold the engine at a certain rpm and then tap the shifter when you want to launch..anyways this guy pretty much sucks at driving this brand new M3 and I BEAT HIM FROM A STOP!!! i did a a perfect launch at around 2500 rpms and powershifted all thru third till about 70-80 mph. i pretty much pulled on him by a little bit when i hit second but he pretty much stayed at back of my drivers side door till we shut down..i know it wasnt a fair race (for me!!) but i sure felt really good afterwards..anyways, didnt mean to hijack the thread, just sharing

awd is great. the only thing is the transmission is garbage on an stock wrx its a gernade waiting for the pin to be pulled.

and evos... mistsu sucks on quality if you ask me. its no wonder why merc. has dropped 12% of their stocks in them.

I think AWD is way overplayed. RWD gets the best traction.

Why does this even matter, and why does the cobra have to be drug into every benchrace?

The STI 1/4 mile runs are even with the 03-04 cobra stock. Maybe .5 secs quicker depends on driver according to car and driver magazine. The only thing is how much faster can you make the STI its already maxed out I believe (not totally sure). That engine can only take so much psi with the turbo. Put gears and change pulley size on the cobra as well as a programmer and even drag radials, BAM there you go the STI is smoked with plenty of room to still add mods to an 03-04 cobra if you really need to. Don't get me wrong the STI is one hell of a vehicle but its pretty much done where its at.

you can do so much to the sti. ive seen between 400-410 awhp. you know how fast those things are with that much power? they would be un beatable. and i forgot who posted it but they said thew cobra and mach 1 would take the sti from a stop... dude im sorry but you are so wrong. the sti would beat a mach 1 first off but it would get better 60ft times and such than a cobra. i have a wrx and i got into a race with a GT with roush side exhaust and stuff on the freeway and i smoked him so bad, maybe it was just driivers skill? but like i said drivers skill means so much. and its not that the AWD handles better, it does but its more of a different handling car. the awd u can just throw in a turn and floor it half way through, with a rwd you cant floor it till ur mostly through the turn our you spin around. its kinda funny cause these same arguments happen over on the suby forums cept its about the sti and cobra. why dont we just end this argument now because we are never going to solve it and its just going to keep going on and on

A Mach 1 is no different than a GT or a Bullitt off the line. It will still get killed by a really fast AWD car.

i'm not trying to be a dick, but there is alot of false info here.

put down the magazine. the Cobra is much faster with a good driver. just look at the trap speeds. the Cobra traps almost 10mph faster. test drivers for magazines suck. i've personally seen a stock 03 Cobra do 12.55@112mph. it's all about getting traction. it's just easier to get traction in an AWD vehichle.

not true. there is alot of potential in the STi even with the stock turbo.

a stock STi will not hit mid to low 12's. a few drivers have been able to get a 12.9 though.

:OT:

i know you guys were talking about the STi engine, but heres proof that an EVO engine is nowhere near maxed out stock.

826 AWHP EVO VIII
http://media.ams-evo8.com/sevo826awhp.wmv

now everyone has their own opinions, but i think the subaru engine has even more potential than the EVO engine due to the boxer layout.

i would expect at least a 8 seccond 1/4 mile with slicks on that car though....dammm

Are you kidding....I can't even think of the name in my head without hearing a "lisp" when pronouncing the "C". Sure it's a fast car, but couldn't they have come up with a more masculine name for it? It ranks right up there in "tough guy" territory with Sunfire, Festiva and Sprint.
