Yeah I think you're right and it might have been called Boss at one time too. I really couldn't care less about the name though, because when it comes out all we'll be calling it is 5.0, nothing more and nothing less.

Hurricane, I believe, is for Ford's 6.2L V8 engine coming out in the future.

I believe the 6.2 was first called Hurricane then changed to Boss. The 5.0 is different though I think.

My understanding is the 5.0 will replace the 4.6 in all vehicles (Mustang, F150, Explorer, Mountaineer, etc).

And Mustang lost the same challenge that Motor trend did. A 13.0 Camaro beats a 13.6 mustang almost all the time. Even if a Mag. says different.

Actually, the Explorer is going to a car based platform. It'll never be the Explorer I remember from Jurassic Park, but it'll still be around.

More like a smaller Chevy Traverse. For how 99% of mid sized SUVs are used, a unit body construction based off of a car platform makes more sense than a body-on-frame truck platform. Can make it lighter, lower the CoG for better handling/less tip over risk, better NVH characteristics, etc...

As to the next GT motor. A 5.0 with 350HP and 360-370ft-lbs with the torque coming in below 3500RPM would be fine. That's the big downfall of the current 4.6. No real low end torque. It would be nice to run 3.23 gears and still get a decent 60' time for those of us who want to maintain a nice low RPM while cruising the highway at 75+. Of course, a 6 speed would help there too.
