MustangProject.com shelby tail light, anyone btdt?

Looking at doing the MustangProject shelby tail light conversion on my Mustang. Anyone have any personal experience with this product? I saw the write up on Mustang Monthly and have questions on the fit and finish on one of the pics there.

Looks like poor fit around the gas-cap. Is there a chrome ring that covers this up? Do the lights stick out from the surrounding sheetmetal leading to water leakage problem since this is a bolt on?
IOW, would you use this kit or do the conversion old school style.

I have done the conversion on my car. The panel does stick out past the original panel so you do not have to hack up your car. The area where the old lights used to be I bent some sheet aluminum to the contour of the tail panel and then used sealer so there is not a worry about leaking. I filled the area around the gas cap by using a flip up gas cap. It fills the area nicely and if the tail light panel is painted the same color as the fiberglass panel you really have to look to see if it is one piece or not. I would do it again without hesitation. If you need a close up around the gas cap or any other part let me know and I will post some pics. One last thing, I am using a fiberglass panel from Mustang Unlimited and not Mustang Project.

Very sharp!
Any close up pics of the gas cap area and the corners of the panel would be appreciated.
Did you to the full Shelby conversion on the front, or did you just so with the Shelby "short hood". Pics again if you have them.
Lastly, why did you use the Mustnags Unlimited fiberglass panel and not the one MustangProject sells with their kit.

I used the Mustang Project Lights and their panel. You can see the most recent pics of my car at my cardomain site. I hope they are close enough for you to see the difference.

I made a stainless steel panel to cover up the original light holes so water would not get in. I also used the flip open gas cap and just installed the key switch. Everything to me looks like it did from the factory. Even the fit of the original style trunk lid was not very good (as expected).

In the front, I used the 'short' shelby hood and it fit/functions just fine. I have the lighter springs for it as well.

On the rest of the pages, you 'might' find a close up picture in the areas you want or I can look tonight for some, but taking new ones will take me a bit of time as the car is 'backed' into the garage, and I an almost done with the passenger side... then I will turn it around.

Let me know if you have any other questions as well, but I would recommend highly their products and they look nice.

I'll take some pictures and post them later tonight. I don't have a shelby front end on my car. I have a valance with the opening, stock hood and a Cougar Eliminator hood scoop (Maier Racing). I went with the tai light penl from MU becasue the were lower in price (ebay score!). I originally got one from Rebel Mustang but trashed it when I saw how bad it was warped, twisted and thin. Pure crap if you ask my opinion and if you put crap on your car your end result will show it.

I wish they'd had that stuff when I was building mine. It hurt to cut up a pefect taillight panel to put the Shelby stuff on there. BTW, ever see a "real" Shelby underneath? It looks like the used an air chisel to cut the panel out and they must have been timed, judging by how sloppy the work is.

Looks like MustangProject is the way to go. Panels look really good on both cars.
Interested in the front end of your car Darreld, just to see what your front end mods look like. Mark, one hell of a good write up.

Love that billet grill....where did you buy that?
Also, what kind of headlight upgrade did you do..

I got the billet grill from Mustangdepot.com and the lower billet grill to match. There are two different ones on the market. Mine is made by Trenz IIRC and it has more bars than the other one. The headlights are Tribar blue dots. I think they are from Autoloc.

i have mustang project lights, i had one that leaked and condensation got inside. they responded quickly and got it taken care of. and they are super bright

That looks a lot like the one I saw. The only difference is at least your cut lines look straight. The '67 I saw looked horrible. Crooked, jagged lines with no concern at all spent on getting the lines even.
