Mustangs conflict with Mustangs

With the Mustang GT at 300hp and the porky GT500 at 500hp, that leaves the specialty Mustangs (Boss/Mach1) to be around 350-425. There might be a conflict of interest between the upcoming Boss/Mach1 and the GT500. I've seen 1/4 mile times for the GT500 anywhere between 13.1 (R&T) and 12.25 (MMFF), but the average seems to be 12.7-12.8. A N/A Boss/Mach1 putting out say 375-400 would probably only weigh in around 3700, putting it's 1/4 mile times dangerously close to the GT500. With identical 1/4 times and top speed (thanks to Ford limiting to 155mph) what else differentiates? Both have live axle, both most likely 6 speeds, GT500 interior isnt a real step up from the regualr GT, I guess the only thing is the Shelby moniker. I would take a $33,000 3700lbs 400hp N/A Boss/Mach1 over a $43,000 3900lbs 500hp S/C GT500 any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays. Conflict I see.

but you can swap the pulley for a quick 100 hp inrcrease on the GT500. cant do that with a N/A motor.

The Shelby is also running 3.31's (I think). A gear swap would make that car insane. They also said it is breathing through the equivilant of a coffee stirrer. A few cheap mods will make that car stupid fast.

I'm sorry, but I shouldnt have to modify a 500hp car to make it as fast as it should be. My original point is that a 400hp 3700lbs Mustang would be stepping into the GT500's territory, kind of making it an expensive redundancy.

Ford right now only offers the 300 HP GT. They for sure will build the GT 500. Other than that, there is nothing being promised coming out in between. Until something is officially offered between the GT and GT500, I wouldn't worry about it.

The GT500 is so tuned down it's sick. With a pulley, tune, drag radials, gears and longtubes it would be in the low 10's, no problem.

Maybe you shouldn't have to modify your car. But how many mustang owners leave them stock?

Oh dont get me wrong, Im not saying I wouldnt modify it, but I shouldnt have to swap pullies and put on slicks or whatever to get a 500hp car out of the high 12's low 13's.

something you can't take away from a shelby is that yes it's blown and yes you can do the same to a 4.6 ;BUT, the 5.4 has forged internals so you are only going to get so much out of the gt, boss, or whatever until you go into the motor. then you have to look at dollor for dollor. i personally just like the looks of the gt better and the shelby is overpriced. oh, and there are already some 6 speed conversions out there so i'm just not sold on the whole gt500 trip.

I have no interest in owning a GT-500.

But give me a SE with 400 HP N/A that weighs about the same as a GT and my wallet is open.

the GT-H is 325 HP. it uses a ford racing CAI, among other parts.

GT-H is an aftermarket car.
It's a regular Mustang GT that gets modified by Shelby, sort of the way things were done back in 1965 & 1966.

You can order all the parts from FRPP & Shelby and make the same modifications to any Mustang GT.

Also, it is NOT available for sale to the general public.

Stupid?

I've never understood why Ford seems to be so against motor options. A return to the days when you could order a Mustang with one of several optional engines would be heaven. I don't really care for a $15,000 set of Shelby badges. A GT with a 5.4L would be perfect for the DIY type. Why does it have to come in a Boss or Mach1 package? They've got the GT, they've got the 5.4, just put the two together for pete's sake!

I would love if the GT could come with the 5.4, why not they will make more money that way.
