I'm trying to decide on a suspension kit for my '72 Mach 1 - the Mustangs Plus Super Starter Kit looks like it has everything I need (I've already got a new pitman arm, steering gear and rag joint).

Is there anything else I'll need or should get for the install?

Thanks,
Wes

what do you need?

I think the M+ stuff is a good upgrade from stock, and you get everything together, which saves time. I had the 479.00 kit on an earlier car years ago (back when it was called "Magna" parts) and they worked acceptably well.

If you price-compare and this kit compares favorably against over vendors' 'kits' (they all have 'kits' now), I wouldn't have a problem using M+ stuff. JMO.

Perfect - my entire suspension is OLD - most bushings are either completely missing or halfway hanging on... it's a very bumpy/squeaky ride to say the least.

I'm not looking for a corner carver, just want the car to handle decently well w/out all the squeaks and rattles.

Thanks for your input LMan!

suspension kit

Hello,
I ordered the mustangs plus suspension kit for my '68 Cougar. I ordered the $875.00 kit, but somehow it ended up costing $650.00 with free shipping. They had to ship my leaf springs seperately due to the difference in spring length between cougar and mustang, and they said something else was different which I didn't get. I did not like that the ball joints were welded in and not replaceable, and the lower control arm came unpainted. I sprayed mine with chrome paint. The tie rod adjusting sleeves that I recieved wouldn't go onto the inner tie rods that they sent. I didn't report this to mustangs plus since it was an eight dollar part and shipping it back would have been a significant part of that cost. I bought Global West adjusting sleeves. I didn't get strut rods probably because it was a Cougar. I ended up buying TCP's adjustable strut rod and eccentric eliminator Kit. Oh, I also upgraded to edelbrock shocks instead of whatever the kit comes with. Once it was all on and finished I liked it. The front is much stiffer, and I probably would have went with an upgraded amount of rear leaf springs if I had known that my Cougar had 5.5 leaf springs on it. I added an export brace and monte carlo bar for extra stiffness. All in all it works well. The alignment guy liked my setup and it was cool talking to someone who had run Cougars on a Nascar track. I did not install the rear sway bar yet, because I didn't like some of the reports of those ripping through the frame rails on this forum. I am currently waiting for a Scott Drake adjustable rear sway bar. You may have to pick u p some nuts and bolts as well.

suspension kit

I just remembered, the kit from mustangs plus didn't come with sway bars for my car only. I bought them seperate for my Cougar. The kit doesn't come with strut rods which probably will not have to be replaced. I would recommend you get an adjustable strut rod kit to free up the suspension. Another highly favored option on the forum is roll spring perches for the same reason. If you are planning on running bigger wheels (16"-18"), you may want to request different upper a-arms with replaceable ball joints and a negative wedge kit. They will work with you as there are many options to this kit which can lower or raise the price. I chose Edelbrock shock instead of KYB's for example. You can choose sway bar sizes, number of leaf springs, stock height, or lowered. I chose stock height so that cost a few (>$5) bucks more for a one inch spring insulator than a .25 inch spring insulator. By the way, I have found out that most people replace the control arm with the ball joint. So it really doesn't matter unless you are going to a big rim size. I'm happy with mine now.

Wow, that's the kind of information I am after - thanks mo'factor!

Good to know that they will work with you on changing the kit around to fit your needs. I definately want the rollorized spring perches.

I'll have to give them a call and work with them a bit to modify the kit to be exactly what I want.

Thanks man you've been a huge help!
