HI!
So I just picked up my first 95 5.0 covert, AODE. The car sounds great with the single chamber flows, x-pipe, and NO CATS , but has abosolutly no get up and go. So I started with the basics. I replaced the cap and rotor, spark plugs, and fuel filter. It still wont even break traction from a zero punch. I know the car isn't going to be screaming fast as stock as it is, but it should have some more umpf. When driving it, I will punch the gas and the motor is slow to wind up, the transmission kicks down and then doesn't accelerate like it should for being in the lower gear, but sure gets loud when the rpms go up.

A few things to consider..?

-I replaced the plugs, the old ones showed signs of running lean (white tips.)

-When I removed the old fuel filter, it wasn't under a lot of pressure. ( I thought that fuel injected cars would be under enough pressure to spray gas out everywhere, instead it just dripped.

-NO CATS?

What do you think?

You'll probably get a better response in Tech, but I could perhaps give it a shot too..

Does the car idle poorly? Also, does it have a check engine light? That could be from removing the cats. Also, perhaps check on your o2 sensors, as if it is running lean they could be on their way out. I don't think they failed outright as the tables in the computer keep the motor fairly rich if the o2s get messed up.

If you have low fuel pressure like you describe perhaps you could need a new pump to get the pressure back up there, and that might help get more fuel to the motor so it isn't running lean.

Thats pretty well all I can think of off of the top of my head, but if I think of anything else I'll let you know, Im sure there are others that will be able to offer you more insight into this problem as well, as of now its a little hard to diagnose because there are a wide range of things that could be causing this.

Hell, your torque convertor could be done, there are lots of things.

Good luck gettin it fixed though.

The 95 5.0 Convertible Automatic, no lying and not trying to be rude at all, has to be without a doubt the slowest mustang since the 79-83 models.

Don't feel bad, my 01GT won't spin off the line either :(

Something to consider is the car that you bought. You have a 95 Mustang convert AODE. That mustang is the most heaviest due to it being a convert and the sn-95 body style, then you have an AODE that loses the most amount of horse/torque. So those might be the some of the reasons.

are you serious strype?? I took a ride in my frineds 02 gt stick and it spun all the way through 3rd! At the track I spun through 3rd but on the street can only manage a bark into 3rd.

Yes thats exact;y what I was thinking, its slow b/c it is convertible(don't be offended I have one too), auto, and a sn95. Verts are much heavier than the regular models, b/c og the chassis braces and such that had to be there to compensat for the loss of the roof.

t-5 swap, the aod/aode cars wont spin off the line, they are dogs all the way through the powerband, a manual will spin 1-2 stock and lightly modded might chirp third. But start off with some gears and a converter and then go to a nice firm shifting valve body, all that stuff will cost more than the t-5 swap though.

Did gears and converter just recently in my baby and she is now an animal off the line....so far no one has been able to take me at traffic lights. Track times will becoming at the end of October....stock engine but if i lay into it to much now she'll spin like crazy. Get some gears and coverter and it will wake her up greatly...but like everyone else said its an sn95 AODE. I owned one also but mine was a 4.6L Non-PI Head Car....if u want to talk about slow :nonono:

on the highway when I step down on it, the trans detents, and the rpms go way up but the car really doesnt go anywhere. Is that normal for 95 mustangs. I mean seriously if a civic and I took off down the highway, the civic would win. HELP!!!!!!!!

I really would check ur fuel pressure.....like i said i had a 96 GT 4.6L Convert and she was slow.....but what your describing sounds very very slow....check your fuel pressure....and you might even what to do a compression test....make sure all cylinders are firing....i had a expedition and the coils (Mod Motor) on the # 8 cylinder used to go bad and she would feel real sluggish with out that one cylinder.

**Mods maybe we could move this to tech cause i know some of the really good tech guys dont always come into talk alot. Thanks

I have a 95 GT covertible with the AODE trans that came stock with 2.73 gears and it wasn't as bad as what you are describing. I put in some 3.73's, bumped up the timing, K&N drop in air filter, removed the air intake silencer and installed some turbo mufflers. The car runs alot stronger now and is hardly slow.

Attention!!! :nonono:

I have personal experience with this and everyone here knows I may cut up, but I'm not a liar. It's funny you bring up Civics...

I had a 2000 Civic EX 5 speed (Roma Red). I was with my wife and this guy was going like 40 mph in the left lane right next to a bunch of cars on a 50 mph highway 2 or 3 years ago. I got within about 8 feet of his car- yes I shouldn't have but I did...

I was merely trying to say "Hey buddy move up!". He evidentally didn't read me correctly and almost locked up his brakes trying to teach me a lesson. I got so mad that he endangered my wife and I and everyone behind us that I lost it and hit the horn and started swearing outta the window and gesturing and such... hitting the brakes like that trying to force someone into you is NEVER called for :nono: It's life and death you're playing with.

So anyway, he slammed on the gas, the car jerked up and I realized immediately it was an automatic. You guessed it, a 95 Red Mustang GT auto with a white top. I still see the ass hat every morning some 3 years later.

To make a loooooong 20 minute story short... I hung with him all the way to about 90 mph. No poop. I did. I chased him about 10 miles into the next city (Madison on I-565) I was so mad.

That car you have is a very heavy, very slow 5.0. I'm not being rude at all... I am a straight shooter. Your main problem is weight. Your car is a convertible which is its main problem. I should know I've owned 2. The 2nd problem is it's a 94-95 which is added weight. The third problem is it's an auto...

Some 3.73 gears or 4.10 gears will make that car what it should have been. They shouldn't be more than $180 and about $200 - $350 installed. :nice:

Hope that helped, and like I said before... I mean no disrespect at all. It's just common knowlege in the mustang world :flag:

Hope that helped- and we can guide you through everything you need!

Welcome to :SNSign:

I had one bitch on my tail a few months ago, I mean real close. I was going bout 45 in a 25, back road absolutely NO REASON it should be a 25, no neighborhood, just a rd. I was cruisin and she was on my ass, I flicked her off and dropped it to second and tore off. she caught up eventually when I slowed down and it turned out to be my sisters hot best friend that wanted to say hi...

being slow

well like the rest said check your fuel pump for presure if that not it and you want to keep the auto then 373 gears shift kit for the trans and a small stall till you up the ponies a bit more and a bbk cold air will help it breath a bit better to my friend has the same car and it was slow till we did these and afew other lil mods i have done afew of those cars for guys and girls now at my shop and they were all impressed with the turn out myself i like the 5spd so i would do the trans swap good luck for you
