My A/C is Screwed?, Need Help

Iwas driving along in 101 degree weather when suddenly I noticed my A/C wasnt getting cold anymore, When I looked at the AC Pulley, the center puck(clutch) does not spin freely and stop like it used to. Now it will kinda turn for a bit, spin freely for a second, then stop. It makes a rattling, creaking noise like a loose pulley bolt or somthing, and Im not getting cold air anymore. Help.

edit: it still makes the th enoise when I have the A/C off, and becomes progressivly noiser as I rev the engine.

Recharge, or the belt is slipping.

Yep, sounds like a low freon charge.

I hope it is only low freon, It is quite possible that they didnt completly refill my a/c when they installed the engine back in Febuary. It has always clicked on and off alot ever since I have had the new engine w/accessories.
Right before the a/c went warmer , if shot out a .5 second burst of cold air, 1 minute or so after that was when I noticed the noise .

the "center puck" what your reffering too is prob the clutch. when the a/c cycles on, the pulley becomes a magnet and the clutch spins with the pulley turning/pumping the comp internals. hopefully the clutch didn't burn apart....that will cause it to make the rattling noise. (you prob knew this)

there is no pulley "bolt".....a pulley bearing, yes....and hopefully it's not siezing, etc..

good luck

If indeed it is low freon, have them throw a can of oil chargein also to lube the compressor internals!!! Good luck!

if its chattering....you might be SOL. make sure the pulley isnt turning red. you might be looking at a new compressor. Mine did that last summer and it cost me $1000 to get a new compressor, recharge etc.....

it is not a real loud chatter, Its noticable, but I cannot hear it with the windows up. When you pop the hood you can tell that the air is not moving around correctly.

sorry to tell you this but the compressor clutch is fried this happend to me last year. get it to the shop ASAP they might be able to save you from changing out the entire compressor with just a new clutch replacement. also if it still keeps making noise afterwards have the water pump checked out mine was also took a dump at the same time.

The water pump, clutch or compressor could be an Issue, I just dropped it off at ford.

I would suspect it is the compressor, like Ford said when I dropped it off this morning, because the a/c clutch /pulley only has 5,000 miles on it(new with crate motor), the compressor on the other hand has at least 60,000 miles on it and I replaced it at least 60,000 miles ago, I currently have 117,000 miles. It was making a sound like a nail tapping a glass jar(very light metallic tapping when I give it gas), no shocking noises.

This should make you feel better - $ 2000 for wifey's Camry when the A/C compressor locked up. The A/C parts have always been expensive , dunno why.
