Background info...this is in my LSC. 90 mustang 5.0, 89 mustang A9L computer, 93 mustang mass air, 95 mustang T5, 97 mustang rear end, it just looks and rides like a lincoln I did all the work and swapping.....anyway:

I'm driving along, coming to a stop sign and all of a sudden, the engine starts screaming shortly after I put the clutch in. I shut off the key, restart and it idles normally. 2 stop signs later, same thing happens, like the throttle is stuck at wide open. I get the car on the highway and it starts taking off in 5th now, randomly surging up to 90 then slowing down normally and surging for a few seconds at a time again. I get it off the highway and to a mall, replace the TPS, still does it, disconnect the IAC, still does it, disconnect the MAF, still does it. Now I'm freakin out, so I go pull the EEC out of my notch and swapped that into the lincoln and it's never run better, drove it 40 miles home without a glitch.....what the hell happened !? It went so high so fast, the stock tach got stuck in the dashboard! Thankfully I had my MSD set at about 6 grand and no severe engine damage occurred, but the EEC and tach signal were much higher than that somehow... anyone know what went wrong and how I can prevent this from happening again?

the computer I pulled out of my mustang was a A3M and my lincoln has never run better. should I leave that computer in the LSC and get a A9L for the mustang?

I too would like to know the answer to this. My 1993 Ford Escort has just begun to do the same thing. It will idle nicely, then, without warning, it will start climbing to the atmosphere. Usually, this happens when I want to come to a stop (mine is a 5-speed also.) If I shut the key off, then restart it, the idle returns to normal (until the next stop.) It does it about 60-70% of the time, so it's not to the point where it's everytime that I stop. By the way, the entire car is stock, with no modifications (hey, it's an Escort !), and there's no cruise control.

Can anyone help us?

See http://www.members.tripod.com/sparkplugs/idle.htm or http://www.mightyap.com/index.htm for some help on your surging idle.

Both sites point to bad TPS sensors as being the culprit in the surging idle that goes high and sticks until you shut off the engine.

The TPS was the first thing I replaced and it didnt work at all..

I just ran my PCM codes and I got fuel pump primary circuit failure and fuel pump secondary circuit failure, and fuel pump high speed circuit open......but it runs fine...WTF is all that?? Bad fuel pump relay?

Do a Google search on Cruise Control Malfunction Ford and you will be surprised what you come up with. From a safety standpoint you might want to at least consider that as a possibility.

nah thats not it either, I removed the cruise control system when I went to the A9L because the lincoln system was vacuum operated and not compatible with the computer...
