My baby is on her way out, is stop leak THAT bad?

Well 226k and shes leaking coolant pretty bad. Ive always burned a lil bit but the other day I came home and found a puddle under her. Its coming from the water pump. Then this morning I came out and there is 4 puddles under her. I think 3 of them are from the water pump, but the 4th is dripping down my bell housing and I cant figre out where its coming from. Or why it just started leaking like this all of a sudden.
At this point its not worth fixing the water pump, this is probably just the start of things to come.
I dont have the money to do a motor swap the way id want to, plus I dont have an engine hoist or anything down here.
I have my ram, but its back in NY, it think im gonna e bay it and buy something else then do a full resto on my car.
In the mean time is it THAT bad to put some stop leak in for now??? Ive always been scared of a the stuff and heard bad things.

Stop leak will not work.....that stuff is made for a small pin hole in your radiator.

Is the car running hot? Being there's coolant running down the backside of your engine I think it may also be a head gasket.

Just give your boyfriend some gaskets and tell him to get to work.

The water pump is probably the shaft seal. Is it leaking from the weep hole in the bottom? The only solution is to replace it. I've gone through probably 4 water pumps in my car's life, and it is due for one now since it is leaking a good gallon a day over 40 miles of driving. I would just replace the water pump and if it still leaks at the back, then maybe try some of the name brand stop leak, like Prestone. I've had moderate success with it before on slowing other leaks, but no experience on the heads themselves. As long as it is not leaking into your oil you can nurse it along a little while longer until you can rebuild it.

Its not the weep hole...its the gasket (at least thats what it looks like)
As far as it being the head gasket im 99% sure its not, no milky oil, no white smoke, no sighns of a leak.

After I left it sitting is when I saw it comin from the back, so its not that coolant was running all over from driving it.

Its not a BAD leak it had a few wet spots under it after sitting for like 14 hrs. Not sure whats gonna happen when it heats up and has pressure through it tho.

I was thinkin about just doing the water pump today, but i feel like itll just be a waste of time. I guess ill put some stop leak in it, keep an eye on it and start shopping for a daily driver.

I just wanted to make sure no one had any horror stories using stop leak. We used block sealer in the pos monte and I think it just messed it up more (might have something to do with using too much and that we were kinda trying to blow it up)

pnygrl.. i live like 20 mins from you lol.. and i know where a entire gt40 motor is.. heads and intake.. friend of mine owns the junkyard and i can help you out with it.. all you gotta do is ask lol

OoOOOo how much?? and what kinda condition is it in?

yes OO lol and it seems just fine.. the car itself is mushed toward the back but the motors complete.. most likely they will sell the whole motor for maybe 350 bucks total... dont hold me to it though.. oh yea and ive scouted the place and found some roller windsor motors to

That would be great if its only around 350, then id have a lil bit better motor for a while till i dump a ton of money into it lol.

lol the only thing is.. it have to go through me and the owners son who is my friend.. its up there by you.. if you dont know its on North rhett or thats a way to get there. You and your bf should go with me and my dad one weekend. I need a battery box lol

Good point. Dont forget the EGR spacer and its two lines as well.

nope checked that, that was my first thought.

Heater hoses cold be it. I gotta look more tommrow, it started making me mad when I saw all the puddles this morning and I just left it.

my poor car is covered in mud from having to off road to my new job, I was covered in mud after crawling under there, I felt like I was working on my truck. Made me even more mad.

On the plus side I found a nice Ram im going to look at this week

my car also loses coolant, i hardly find leaks on the ground, i think it just gets our while i am driving and burns away.

I go through maybe a jug every 3 weeks. I am just paying it cool and adding it, i am planning to do a motor swap here in the summer anyway :D

Replacing the water pump/gasket isn't a big deal... it probably takes a couple hours at the most.

I'd at least replace the gasket, or you can get a cheapo water pump for like $25-30.

oh ya i forgot to add pnygrl, if you need some tools and/or help to change that water pump your more than welcome to use them. Lots of fox body guys come buy and i help em out. Also if your interested, my dad sells the FRPP blue silicone hose kit to. I can get you one for about 100 bucks and have it by tuesday. Just give me a ring

I have had a leaking thermostat housing. It dripped down the engine, down the water pump, onto the starter wire housing, filled the housing with coolant, followed the housing all the way to the starter, dripped down the starter and side of the block to the engine spacer plate that ended up on the bottom of the bellhousing.

I would buy that other engine though if i were you.

I didn't think these had freeze plugs on the back of the block? I would bet my money on the head gasket. Just because there isn't any trace of it in the oil and not having any smoke doesn't mean that it isn't going. The head gasket could be bad in just the right spot and it seals itself up (expansion) when the engine is warm and then once it cools off it leaks out. I had this problem for over a year with my old 94 mustang until one day the head gasket said okay I am completely done.
