I was hoping comp cams could verify it's WRONG, but today they said this is the correct gear.
Because I feel there's not much else happening with this installation, I going to pull the cover this weekend.

I have the old gear, once I pull the cover I'll know for sure either way

unless anyone else has any other ideas?

If i was just a little closer i would go and put it on myself for you. I put chains and timing covers on in my sleep.

well when my balancer wasn't seating properly I removed it, and headed it up with a torch not glowing but heated up good, and hot. Then and only then did the ballancer slip right on and bottomed out, I put some locktite on the bolt and it hasn't caused me a problem since

I'm so pissed I lost so much time over this stupid sprocket...so what now; wait another week to get a replacement...no reply yet from comp cams- I'm so pissed. I've never built an engine in my life; I have enough to worry about; not this stupid thing

Put that sprocket on a diet!!! It looks kinda fat from here.

I agree if thats your worst issue with this swap then you're lucky. Besides mild fitment/ electrical issues with the swap.

ok, I'm pissed off right now

comp cams told me that...oh you should have probably purchased #2120 -that's 65-88
the one I got is 84-92 and "you really need to watch out for those Ford engines" and "you should check the parts before you install them"

So; there's an overlap with the fuel-pump eccentric and specs on the pre-89 engines- wow!

So; basically I bought this timing set as part of a package SK35-514-8 that included my cam, lifters and the timing set. I did this for simplicity and I would know the components are matched up nicely. Now this guy says...this timing set may not work on EVERY 87-88 engine? Why wouldn't they drop this warning anywhere on their site or instructions? Why only offer one set for the 87 and it NOT cover every 87 engine? So; I was doomed from the start.

So, they won't take it back; I eat the cost and I'm stuck buying another timing set.

Can someone tell me...can't I just get whatever set from the local parts store? I'm done with comp cams timing sets- screw that. I don't think the timing set matters as long as it fits the MY ENGINE.

errr, wtf; seriously this is not what I expected them to tell me.
And...I am not comfortable buying their set #2120 as who the hell knows if it really fits my engine or not- I'm not EATING THE FREIGHT BILL on a second set that doesn't work out.

ok, new update; I got another timing set....this one specificaly for the 1 pc fuel pump eccentric...which I assume is the application note that I'm missing...and....this new gear is now yet a third overall thickness....it closed HALF OF THE GAP but not all of it.

So what the hell is going on? Do I just install it anyways at this point? Try to load up on the silicone and get the timing cover to come outward as far as possible? Maybe torquing it down will close the gap more? either way, I can tell by the gears that this one is only HALF way to what i was looking for. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND A TIMING SET FOR THIS DAMN ENGINE? Dammit ford...they stopped using the 1 pc fuel eccentric in 84, and phased it out through 89- why is it so difficult to get this to work? At what point do I install it based on a leap of faith I won't leak at the front seal?

Well, you've convinced me not to get a comp cams timing set when I get to that point in my rebuild. And, no, I wouldn't load up on silicone and hope for the best.

hmmmmmmmmmmm....god I hope not! It's on the #3....

Just the odds of 2 separate companies sending the wrong timing gears aren't very high. One more thing. Does the rear main seal ride the crank in the exact same location as before? Also, did you center the thrust bearing?
