Took my '03 5 speed into the dealer to have the 2nd-3rd shift grind repaired under warranty. This was 18 days ago. They still have it. They pulled the tranny and replaced what was wrong, put it all back together, and now they tell me that they have to pull it again because there is a noise that sounds like a bearing spinning, real loud. After all this the service rep tells me that this is the first time the mechanic has EVER worked on a TR3650. I was pissed. I told him that had I known this I would have taken my car to another more experienced dealer. The rep tells me that since they have so much work time into it, I can't take it to another dealer now, that they have to fix it. Can they do this? Keep my car hostage? I am going back tomorrow, Monday, and telling them that if my car is not fixed by Thursday I am putting it onto a flatbed and taking it somewhere where they know what the hell they are doing. What would you do in this situation? Thanks everone for letting me vent.

I don't think the rep was talking about the techs first job, he was probably generalizing that the 3650's don't give to much trouble and this is more of a first time problem. Maybe not but possible.

I would not threaten the dealer with taking the car somewhere else, because the next dealer you take it to is not going to accept a job in progress from another dealer.

No, the rep specifically said that none of his tech's have ever opened a TR3650. AFTER he screwed up my car. I may just take my car back and pay a competent mechanic to fix it on my dime, hell with the warranty!

The way I see it, you are lucky that dealership is even looking at the car with all those mods on it. Right now they could eaisly tell you tuff luck, were not paying for a damn thing cus you void'd your waranty. But you don't have that many crucial mods so I doubt they would tell you to get bent. Also, I find that dealership mechs are nimrods. I once took mine in for a pcv valve leak and they were looking in the wrong place for the pcv valve. Also asked me if that was oil comming out of it
