In order for it to go anywhere it's going to need some decent size slicks or at least drag radials on the back, so you wouldn't be fooling anyone. If you put street tires on it you defeat the whole purpose because a 12 second car that hooks would probably rape it up the ass from a dig. You would have to be a roll race queen like supras and even then it probably wouldn't hook under 100.

These are hands down the 2 coolest sleepers I've ever seen. Probably the sickest fox ever built too imo. Both go 8s as they sit

All yall hatin on the focus, stick to your hondas and STFU. I love my SVT Focus as a DD. I wont drive a hyandai or Honda or Toyota cause "they are good commuter cars." I ride in heated leather Recaro's and a 6 speed tranny. Not to mention I have a Ford product that whoops all other 4 cylinder sport compacts.

No respect? Read this article...

Needless to say I love your idea!!

I agree, there's nothing wrong with a Focus, if I could get a steady job I'd buy my buddy's SVTF for a DD.

If I had money to burn, I'd get one of those rare AWD Ford Tempos and turn it into a WRX eater. Now that would be a sleeper!

The Nova and the black coupe are 2 of my favorite cars, but i don't know if i'd personally consider either one a real sleeper. You know they both sound like total hell.

Nah man. Focus's are the ****. I'd take a V8 3-door hatch any day. Like the modular Focus that ford Made w/ the 5.0 Cammer.

I want this so bad:

I was at work last night hating my job as usual so i started day dreaming about what i would build if i were building the ultimate sleeper. I thought about trying to find an old Ghia coupe or maybe a Fairmont, but these days you can't build either one and really be a sleeper because people expect them to be sleepers. Then i thought about maybe doing a V8 Miata, but i'm not into convertibles and i think they're chick cars. So, i decided i would build a V8/RWD Focus with a twist.

I'd start with a plain Jane white Focus, and i'd take the factory rims and have the backs widened to fit some decent rubber under it...no aftermarket wheels here. Then of course i'd do the necessary K member and rear end work to make it RWD. I thought about maybe a DOHC Cobra 4.6, but they're heavy and i want this thing to stay as light as possible, so i'd go with a World Products Man-O-War tall deck 351 and stroke it out to 460ci (yeah, they'll go that big). Then i'd back it with a Transzilla T56. I'd have a narrowed 9 inch built for the rear end and i'd house it with something around a 3.27 gear....because this baby is also getting twin turboed. Engine bay space is limited so i'd do one of those tail pipe turbo setups and tuck them up as high as possible to keep them out of sight. I'd even go so far as to have the duel exhaust routed flush side by side out one side of the rear end to keep the "duel exhaust" look out of the picture..i don't want any hints.

The beauty of this is that when sitting still and not running, the only way you're gonna have any clue as to what this car is packing is if you're curious enough to poke your head up under the car and you notice that it's RWD and you notice the turbos. Beyond that it's just gonna look like a typical white Focus commuter car until it fires up. Can you say twin turbo big block power in a light weight car?

so do the exhaust tips fight each other or something?

Yes. Kung Fu style, out the back of the car. Clearly you can see how this would ruin the sleeper look, having roundhousing tail pipes caught in an epic battle out the back of my car.

That's pretty badass.

Don't get me wrong, this thread isn't about my dream car. I'd have the engine combo in my coupe if that was the case. I was just thinking that if i had the money to build a car strictly for the sleeper effect, this is probably how i'd do it. I think cars that are 'current' make the best sleepers because there's so many of them out there and they blend in with the crowd around them. That's why an old '79 Ghia coupe just wouldn't work...it stands out like a sore thumb because there aren't any others around.

The first swap i ever saw was in the first issue of Focus Fanatic magazine. I worked with a guy who had a Focus and i bought the mag for him, and they had an '03 Cobra engine/trans/IRS swap in there and i was just blown away at how amazingly OEM and neat everything fit. The stock hood even clearned the Eaton blower. The only hint at what that car had was duel exhausts and if you were low enough you could kinda see the IRS pumpkin and half shafts.
