ok i have a 88 stang lx 5.0..with aod trans..ok the engine when i first start it up runs good..then after about 10 minutes ..the oil pressure drops and a dull knock starts to develop..but what is strange to me the engine runs strong and does not ever run hot...i really hate and dont have the money for a new engine...would anyone know would a new crank and bearings would fix this or would the block be no good..and if the crank could fix it.. will the fox body and engine layout allow the engine to stay in the car to replace the bottomend..or would u have to take the whole engine out...oh yeah someone said till i had more money is to put 2 bottles of lucas additive in it and the rest 20w 50 weight oil..and it would stop the knocking till i could save some more..thankyou

I would go with the 20/50 and see if that cures it. If not, add some Lucus or STP (motor honey stuff - very thick!). Sounds like you have a sic motor and it will need rebuilding but I have had several engines knock like that and have used them for another 10K+ miles before rebuilding. In both cases, I had to raise the idle speed otherwise the engine would knock at idle due to oil pressure drop. However, I had one engine that this did not work on but I bought the car knowing it had a knock and I think the previous owner drove it for quite a while with the knock and 10/30. Try the 20/50 and just be easy on the engine and save your $,$$$.
