My G-Tech Pro says 12.97...is it right?

Hey kids,

The new G-Tech Pro Competition I have show me a couple of 13 sec runs (best). Are these things even close to track times?

I am VERY interested to know if these things produce ballpark numbers or not.

If you have a G-Tech and track slips....PLEEEEEZE comment!

The car is 98 with a n.a. 4v motor.

K&N
Flow 40s w/catted H and turndowns
3:73s
315/35/17s at the rear (Street tires)
Adj. rear shocks set for 'soft'

REALLY good air...ran 2- 13.6s, 1- 13.4, and 1- 12.956@113

Car consistently runs mid 13s according to the G-Tech...using 8" rollout setting.

Is this thing for real?

The mid to high 13's i would beleive.

Not a 12.9 though. Sorry.

MPH is always high on the G-tech. It's because at the track they take MPH readings a certain distance apart and average them. 113MPH on a G-tech would be like 106-107MPH at the track.

I was wondering the same thing, no tracks real close to my house, so I was thinking about getting one of these things, or a similar product. Which brand/model is most accurate?

did you imput the weight of your car? if the weight is off, the time will be off.

In my experience, GTechs are great, however.. As others have stated, the weight/w driver will realy make a diffrence. Not only that but you MUST be on a level road to get the most acurate data. Other wise, if your going up/down the 1/4 as measured by the GTEch, you will scew the results.

Best advice would be to run the same road consistently. IE: If your going to measure your 1/4 going south bound on a road, dont just turn around and go the opposite dirrection and use the results as reliable. You must make every 1/4 mile measurement the closest as possible.

Try going to a local track/w the GTECH and run the track+gtech and compare.

Weight inputs on the original Gtech were for Horsepower ratings only, there is no need for them for 1/4 mile times. Unless, the new comp model requires them.

You dont need vehicle weight for 0-60 or quarter mile calculations only for Horsepower measurments. You do need to find a very level, smooth road and always run in the same direction for the most accurate readings. I have the original G-Tech, and I have found it to be accuate to within 2 tenths compared to the local dragstrip (Brainerd International Raceway). Also make sure the G-Tech is calibrated and level for every run. Make sure the meter is at ambient temp for most accurate readings. If the meter is stored in the glove box on a hot day it will not be accurate. If you spent the time using the meter properly they are accurate

Wow! If this is true, then I am impressed!

I do run the car on a very flat, very level, very straight stretch and have been comparing my runs in the same direction, simply because, I have been hooking up the best in that direction. Also, all runs have been in very similar atmospheric conditions, again because that is where I know I will run the best.

Had my car weighed with me in it at the local dump...3520 pounds near full of gas. Does this sound right guys, for a 98 Cobra and a 160 lb. old man?

So......cool! Even if it's off a little, it's GOT to be a great practice/comparison tool (convincing myself to keep it). LOL Whatever, it's fun as hell....especially when you see those 12s pop up at the end of the run...LOL!

Seriously, it seems to be pretty damn accurate unto itself if nothing else. Very flexible.

I got it like new in the box w/everything for $160 + $10 on Ebay...figured it was worth a shot...I think I like it.

Oh, and it has a really cool shift light!

They suck! Don't waste your money. I have used mine at the track and it is never close. It has been off by more than an entire second.

For those that commented on driver+car weight. Sorry, but you don't understand how they are suppossed to work. You could put 5 lbs for weight and it would not make a difference for 1/4 mile times. The G-Tech simply measures acceleration and time. That's it. Weight is only used for hp calcs. Anyone who have taken calculus can easily understand the mathematical calculations used.

When you know acceleration and time, velocity is simply the area under the curve and then distance is simply the integral of velocity. Problem is that if the accelleration data is off, then the entire rest of the calculations are off by a large factor.

I just bought one myself two days ago. Just started to play with it. Iv got a 89 GT stock.
and i used the weight of 3200 WT. 1/4 14.692 @95.5 MPH 148.3 HP and 162 TQ
Not to sure on the weight.Im 200 myself.Time seems right Hole shot sucked. HP and TQ not so sure. I bought it because im doing a motor swap and wanted to see a diff. (331 stroker) yea ha.
and Wanted a shift light and that seems to work great.
Ill keep testing. I only did one 1/4 Mile run(Cops in silver camaro where out so time to stop) . Its rained the last two days.

I'm getting the impression that, set up right, these things are a kick in the ass! Pretty close to reality too, evidently. I can live with it if it's up to .5 sec off in the quarter.

I'm pretty damn sure I can run within 1/2 second of the G-Tech, ok, not sure about the 12.95 run. LOL

It's a helluva toy guys!

Smoken 04 is correct!! You do not need to enter wieght, unless you want it to figure out HP.
They are great for testing any mods you may do, as well as helping to perfect your launch.
I have the old G-tech Pro as well as the new one, the new one is much more advanced.Testing both at the track, the old one is out a few tenth's and reads about 3-4mph high. The new one is very, very close to actual times, while reading about 2mph higher.
The first G-tech I bought was not accurate at all, I phoned the company and they said to send it back and they would recalibrate it or send me a new one.They sent a new one. I've been very happy with it since.

I just bought the Passport G Timer GT2 and had the car at the track. It seems to be off by about 2 tenths. Which is pretty good for something you just plug into the lighter.... The mph was pretty accurate also... I am very happy with it

I've got a new GTECH Pro Comp, and my results are similar. Mostly stock few minor items. but my average times are 14.4-14.7@ 96-100mph, and 165hp, and 230tq. my torque blows yours out of the water for some reason. to my knowledge i have stock gears. i'm running a 5spd as well. I love this item. I just got it a few days ago, but it's a lot of fun for you and your friends, especially if you would like to get a good idea of what you got in your car.
