My God what is that Smell !!!!

Thanks for all the input guys, Im leaning more towards it being a dead mouse then it being mold or water damage. Reason being that we havent had much for rain at all the past few weeks, nothing that would cause any water damage if it did leak. We got a ton of rain this summer and my interior was never wet and it does make sense that a mouse would be looking for a warm place to stay since the nights are getting cool now and there looking for warm places to stay other then outdoors IE.. Our houses or our MUSTANGS

I was at a freinds last night from about 6:30 PM to 11:45 and I had my windows closed w/ the doors locked b/c its an apartment complex and I dont trust all the people there. Anyway I go to leave and the inside of my car REEKS!!! Im going to pull back the trunk liner and other panels today and see if I can find a body anywhere. In a way I want to find something so I know what the smell is comming from but in a way I dont want to find a dead mouse in my car either, especially after its started to rot :barf: Dont ask me how I can go to work and deal w/ murderes and child killers and get all freaked out over a dead mouse in my car.

To bring some humor to this, here are some thoughts.

Since your from Maine:

1. Could be Moose *****
2. Could be some roadkill stew under the hood.

Again, just trying to make you laugh...

:p good ones

anywho I just went out to the car another go over, opend the door and still stinky :nonono: ( reminds me of the seindfeld eposide). I poped the trunk and took out all the crap that has been accumlating in there over the summer and came to discover that my trunk liner was soaked, I pulled it off and theres slimy gross stuff under it which I take to be mold. Its odd though b/c the trunk or the liner dosent really smell bad but the inside of the car still stinks, you can smell it over the febreeze. As of now the trunk is cleaned out and the liner is pulled out, Im going to let it dry out and then bleach the trunk later today and see if that kills the smell or not. Hopefully this fixes it before I pass off my keys to some bum like seinfeld did.

Look under the back seat now. Water could have started in the trunk and ran downhill from there. As Oink said, look under the any section of the carpet you can get to easily.

It may not have rained there much, but if you have A/C your car sweats and a backed up drain can leak under your carpet by the floor mats.

Mines not clogged cause I can hear it pour out on to the hot manifolds.

well it prob was from one of the last rain storms but I just never noticed it until now. I dont even use my A/C, dosent even work actually Im out of freon.

This happens to me all the time. I go to the car wash and always leave the wet towels in the trunk. Get out of class after the car sits in the sun for 3 hours and wala, smelly smelly smelly. Just a thought.

Maybe your driving skeered a passenger and they pissed in the back seat?

if it stinks that bad i highly doubt its water damage, mabye a bird, mouse came into your car. do you leave your windows open? iv heard of cats bringing birds into cars and hiding them lol.

its not your heater core is it? thats more of a coolent/fishy smell.

I would check inside the trunk where the gas filler neck is. My car used to leak right there and since you have water in your trunk.....

You'll want to re-seal that area so you don't get any rust down in the recessed area.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the mysterious smell is no longer in my car :D Turned out it was the carpting/trunk liner that was causing the gawd aweful smell. Since I took it out of the car yesterday morn I have not smelled that odor again. I Just want out to the car after it sitting all night w/ the windows up and it smells fine.

I take it that the leak is comming from the hole in the deck lid for the rear wing. I had to ream out one of the holes to make it bigger so the wing would fit b/c the bolt holes were not quite spaced far enough apart. I'll have to find some way to seal it up or just not drive it in the rain next summer b/c It will mostly be a show car once I get done w/ it this winter/spring. I needed new trunk carpeting and that peice that goes over the spare tire anway b/c it was sagging. Just wanted to say :nice: to the people who said it was water damage. I really did think it was a dead mouse from the way it smelled.

I saw your car in the other tread I like the white wheels on a red car looks good.

Thanks, but they wont be on it when its on the road for next summer. They look good from a distance but if you get close to them there totally trashed. The clear coat has craked and dirt get in the cracks so its got brown streaks all through the rims. No more powercoat rims for me, going another route this time.
