heres my parts list for this winter. i plan on running some boost next year. late 2006 hence the studs, head gaskets, and pump.

i dont want to get a new maf or injectors yet. i want to wait till i start running boost to get some 42's and appropriate sized maf.

i'm probably going to have to get larger pushrods but i'll find out once the cam is in.

i dont know what to do about gaskets like water pump, timing cover, and valve cover gaskets. should i just get a kit???

is there something on this last that you guys would rather recommend or i should add?

thanks

what i have: E7's ported-bare

FMS-M-6268-A302
kirban regulator
255 in-tank pump

I got this kit from FRPP M-6003-A50..all Fel-Pro stuff with all the good numbers most of us use....for under 90.00....Boost is in your future so I would plan accordingly for good heads gaskets....
I tend to stick with FRPP stuff....they have a M-6051-A50 they recommend for boost, its gaskets/head bolts..

i could help you out with the valves if you need a set relatively cheap, i have a set of valves that came out of my e7's...... stock size, have a 3 way(poss. 5 way) valve job, i have the receipt somewhere......

10$......or you can have an assembled set of e7's wit hthe valves and springs for the same price, but you woul d have to pay for shipping on the boat anchors.....lol.. I have a very low mileage timing set as well. the FMS with the 9keyways.....less than 2k miles...

don't know if that set andy recommended has TB gaskets or not, but you will need one.

i would also think that you need a gauge if you getting an adjustable regulator...
:nice:

I agree with RIO 5.0 on the gasket set. I looked at summit and tried buying gaskets seperatley since i didn't need every single one that came in the kit but when you buy head gaskets($65), intake gaskets($30), and timing cover gaskets ($20), it adds up to more than you'd pay for the FRPP gasket kit ($85) that includes a ton more stuff.

Get a new balancer, especially if yours is original.

LT headers. I know you have the MAC shorties on there. But at least give it a little thought. There will NEVER be an easier time to drop em in.

You might want to pick up some new bolt kits (timing cover, locking header bolts, lower intake bolts, accessory bolts). The thought here is that you are gonna be taking so much apart, you don't want to get derailed breaking an old crappy bolt. Also, you will get a pretty nice shot at the header bolts, making it pretty easy to get locking bolts installed.

Some other little stuff you might want: valve covers, lower to upper intake spacer, EGR delete or solution for hooking it back up.

Replace your vacuum hoses while you're in there. It will never be easier and I guarantee some if not most are dry rotted.

There is no point to a fuel pressure regulator as the computer will settle your fuel pressure at 39psi anyways.

How are you gonna tune it? A TwEECer R/T is 550 or a PMS is something around a grand, not too sure. Budget that in too.

Are you planning on making the motor ready for boost? I'm in the process of puttting a turbo on my car and my turbo builder reccomended a few things.
-if your going to have a blower that feeds oils from the engine, remove the pan and install the fitting. Just plug it for now.
-might as well change the oil pump and oil pump drive rod.
-instead of lock wire gaskets, they reccomended having the heads machine for piano wire and graphite gaskets.
If you need longer pushrods, I have a set on manley chromemoly 6.4 that were too long for my new cam. $60

sorry for the very late reply. been busy with work. let me try to answer all of your posts

urban96- yes, a water pump would be a good idea. i wouldnt mind getting a stewart warner higher volume polished pump. Ummmmmm.

RIO5.0- is there a list of part numbers available for all those gaskets in that kit? i was looking into that headgasket/bolt kit FRPP offers but the bolts are of the torque to yield design which means i would only be able to use them 3 times while the ARP studs are a better design and i could use them more.

Mytight95- i already have a set of heads all ready to go with a 1.85 In. and a 1.55 valve job. how much are you looking to get for the timing chain set and whats the part number?

thats another thing about a gasket kit. i did the fox TB swap. can i use the sn95 gasket kits TB gasket?

i made my own gauge kit that connects to the fuel rail. only cost me $3 Canadian lol. works great. on a side note, i'm only running 35 psi with vac off.

GRGT1994- which balancer do you recommend.

my original plan was to run longtubes and a prochamber but i found a set of cheap unequals locally so i picked them up. my plan is to flip them and run a MP T-70 with all accessories and a/c. :Zip2:

ARP makes a great chrome bolt kit that would look very nice. maybe i'll add that to the list.

i already have some fox valve covers all polished up that i'm getting chromed, i would like to find a cheap used edelbrock spacer, and i no longer run EGR/AIR unless you consider my gutted air pump still counts :rlaugh:

Black95GTS- if i can find a used tweecer for a great price, i'll pick it up. if not, i'll get Ed Hohenberg to tune my car locally.

Cobra4075- i wont know what size pushrod if any untill the cam goes in. its a hit or miss situation.

thanks for all the tips guys. very much appreciated

Higher FP can make the injectors act bigger. The computer cant re-settle the pressure...i believe it just adjusts the injectors pulsewidths so that it would be the same as before a/f wise i believe. But when u are tuning with a Tweecer or PMS, the higher pressure can result in a injector that acts "bigger".

ANd the 04 PMS is $850....but u dont NEED that. THe pre04 version, like mine, can tune just as well as the 04 or tweecer. I paid $325 for mine and its a 02 year model.:nice:

Be careful on those kits, from my experience, i want to say that there are some bolts that you can not use. And those kits are a lot of money too....so just be sure that the bolts are what are needed in our applications.

And if you are going to be boostin the motor, ATLEAST get ARP bolts. But i would pay the extra coin and get the studs for the extra clamping force.

i have a set of brand new arp head studs i'll sell you. they are for stock heads and a few aftermarket heads so they will work for you. the part number is ARP-154-4001. they are about $75 plus $8 handling from summit. i'll ship them to you for $60 if you are interested.

Ed was in there with some of the rest of us way back in the day of trying to figure out how to make that little silver box do our bidding :rlaugh:

He is a sharp cookie and contributed more than his fair share of knowledge in that small self tuning community in those days :nice:

Its knowledgeable peeps just like him that gave me a helping hand to gain whatever knowledge I may have attained :hail2:

That makes me feel I need to give back to our hobby just as those before me have given :)

I did see that article where he got some good press ;)
