My heating issues may be over.

Many of yall know the saga of the issues I`ve had trying to get this motor to run cool enough to drive it.

Steam hole issue, never got addressed but may not need it now.
Upgraded the fan to a 6 blade flex o lite.
Then the lack of the spring in the bottom radiator hose.....oops
Then I added a 3 inch thick griffin rad in place of the 3 row copper.
Shroud was in place all along.
Final punch was saturday when I added an Edelbrock high volume water pump and Milodon thermastat which finally fixed the problem.

I can now flog my car for miles without getting over 195, but (because I forgot to put the shroud back on when I bolted the fan up) still gets hot at idle LOL.

Thanks guys for all your support and advise on this issue, I can finally drive my car around and it not get hot enough to hurt it any more.

i believe i don't have a spring at the bottom of the radiator hose. what's the purpose??

Thats where it draws teh water thru your water pump. Sometimes its not an issue, but you can have it collapse that hose, where the spring keeps it from collapsing.

I just bought a new radiator hose and it doesn't have a spring. I asked the parts person and he told me they don't come with them anymore.
Anybody else heard that?????

Whats it look like, if its not reinforced then it can still collapse. Is it a ribbed style, those will hold shape. Bascially, if you can squeeze it flat by hand, it can and quite possibly will do it in your car.

I trust most parts guys about 1/2 as far as I can throw them. Try a different parts house and I'm sure they will have ones with springs in them.

I might be able to run wide open up Boston Mt now

But more importantly, I can smoke the tires and not have to go home immediately afterward cause it wouldn`t cool back down.

i've seen the spring itself available somewhere, maybe mustangs unlimited or one of the other stang suppliers. most newer hoses won't need the spring, especially if you get a high quality hose, i prefer Gates brand myself and use their belts, hoses, power steering hoses and power steering, ram, control valve and pump rebuild kits pretty much exclusively and have never had a problem with any of them.

The last Gates hose I bought still had a spring in it. That was about 2 years ago.

Some hoses don't have them. Gates still do I believe. If you don't have one some parts guys will cannibalize one for you from another hose.
No spring with a high flow pump can flatten the hose and cut off most of the circulation.......sorta like kinking a garden hose. This can even happen with a stock pump too. Easy insurance to put a spring in.
