with the auto, go 4.10s; nothing less. You'll have to use a tuner on the automatic and i'd recommend a tranny cooler while you're there. I'd add some lowering springs to your things to do and then be done until you can afford a blower or full PI swap.

Smart move by not wasting your time/money on bolt-ons You're off to a smart start.

ahaha dont listen to these PI guys, they are in thier own world You don't need a tuner to regulate ur speedometer at all. You can use a speedo gear, but id recomend a Speedcal. I'd say stay w/ 3.73's and if u feel peppy 3.90's if it is your daily driver though - im going to get flamed for saying this. I bought 4.10's first (and i have a 4R70W like you) and 4.10s are just hell on the freeway - if it isnt your DD then deffinitly go for it, it's fun. Tranny cooler was the best advice so far, if your tranny isnt doing poor 1-2 shifts and torque conveter shuddering around 35-45 yet it will with more miles (having to rebuild mine right now). If you have any questions for a fellow SN95 then shoot me a pm.

Wait, you ran a 14.7 with a similar car?

The car ran a 14.700 (couldn't get it in the 14.6s at all. I had the one 14.700 then backed it up with 3 consecutive 14.71s.... I wanted the 14.6 badly ) with a 2.165 60' and a 9.464 1/8th mile.

I also have 140+ thousand miles on the car Don't be discouraged since it might not run the times that some of these guys do, the NPI mustang is capable to run decent times, it just takes some modding is all

You could find you a PI intake to install and that will net some gains, especially if you pair it with some PI cams aswell

The first few times I went to the track was after my intake swap. My best was 14.7 with a bunch of 15.0 and 14.9's. Weather made a big difference.

The best mods so far have been my cams and gears. The PI intake opened up a few RPM's up top. The rest of my mods are just small steps to the greater whole.

See Garage for details.

Thanks for all of the advice! I took the stang for a test drive last night, and all hope is not lost on the non-pi heads. Although I want to do a PI swap, with the money I would spend on it I would be close to half of the cost of a supercharger, so I think I'm going to just save up for now. What I'm looking at right now for possible upgrades are a tuner (SCT Xcal 2), an h-pipe, lowering springs, and 3.73 gears with a rebuild kit and a speedometer gear. As a college student I don't have much money especially after buying the stang, but I want to get the best bang for my buck.

Gears will give you that I'd also do a tranny cooler to keep the tranny alive longer

Don't do the speedometer gear. You'll be on borrowed time with it. They shred very easily. You need the Dallas Mustang Speedcal to correct the speedo on yours.

My uncle had a Mustang that looked exactly like yours. I used to drool over it back in the day at family parties. He had an offroad H, and 10 series Flowmasters with 3" dumps. It would wake the dead. Congrats on the new car!

Is it just the pics or is the paint on your car really faded and oxidized?
Welcome anyway.

The car itself looks great, but the camera isn't good. That, and when it is as cold as it was the camera doesn't work as well as it should. I'll get some better pics come spring, maybe when it's lowered

nice car... before i bought my 04 i was looking at a 09 green vert with the peanut butter interior....

do 4.10s. you will be VERY happy... the pi stuff can be purchased from a pi guy pretty easliy after they upgrade their stuff. everyone says 4.10 are not fun high way-- well.. then go slower.. lol... im usually at 65 or 70 highway... if i had a six speed i would consider 4.30s and just never use first gear.. lol...

n00b, I would have expected more from someone as experienced/wise as yourself . He has a 98, a Tuner wont do **** as far as correcting his speedo, only the DM speedcal or a speedo gear will do it...speedcal is best.

What you should do is save up for that blower, then while that's going in throw on a PI manifold (if you get a centri blower) as well as PI cams or performance NPI cams....Then you'll be set!

Well I just found out I have 3.73's already in there, so for now I'm just looking at a speedo gear or speecal, an h-pipe, some lowering springs, and an xcal 2. After that, it's just saving up for a KB

I'm not sure, the h-pipe and x-pipe both seem to have subtle differences with power ranges, but with the flowmasters I think the h-pipe may sound a little better. Any opinions?
