so im getting sick of my flowmasters for whatever reason. i think its the drone and the fact they are only 3 chambers. i know a offroad h would be the best thing for the money but i want to avoid that. what kinda mufflers can i get for good sound. i want something that gets louder as my rpms increase, unlike my flows that shutup at 3k. also links to the places i can order these would be helpful too.

bullets?
2 chamber flows?
magnaflow?

If you dont like the drone with 3 chambered flows,, 2 chambers are REALLY gonna piss you off!
Im putting back on my 3 chamber flows. I have Bassani's rite now and though they put out a totally "Unique" sound at WOT during normal cruising they are a little annoying. At normal driving there actually louder "inside" the car then they are outside!

Not many mufflers are going to behave much differently as long as you have your stock H pipe. The ones that do usually sound like crap...your car will sound like a big burly redneck pickup truck with a cherry bomb hanging down underneath. Get the off road H...with your 3 chamber flows your car will sound KILLER. I know, I had the same setup on a 91 LX. It was the best sounding mustang in my area. Its not hard to install one either.

Do it, you won't regret it.

get rid of the stock h pipe, thats your problem. changing mufflers wont satisfy what you are looking for, your h pipe is the problem. and it you want a little louder get rid of the 3 chamber flows. those are not very loud.

i have headers, catless H and bullets with no tails and its daggum loud, deosnt have as much tone but its a nice sound, i started to hate it but i like it again. alot different sound than the regular old flowmaster that you hear 154 times a day.

people always tell me they can hear MY CAR, they can hear it blocks away and KNOW that its me. the sound is just alot different than any other mustang around here.


if you want loud get rid of the stock h pipe and get some headers if you dont already and get some mufflers and dump them, GTs can get away with dumping the exhaust. IMO an LX looks funny without tails. but its hard to make good looking tails on a GT, without cutting the bumper which i dont like personally or getting the cobra rear bumper. i just assume dump a gt and be done with it.

dont get a catted h pipe thats pointless its like halfassing it, get an O/R H and keep your stock h around, when its time for inspection, put the stock H on and pass the test, changing the h pipe isnt hard and the more you do it its gets easier and can be done in 20-30 mins.

if your worried about the environment then by a hybrid car or something that uses less gas. were mustang guys not wussy girly men.

and i doubt you yourself running no cats is going to tip the scale as to whether the environment goes to crap or not.

i'd get the catless h and be done with it, you WILL like the power and sound differences.

once he gets the off road h pipe this will no longer be a problem. 3 chambers are better than 2's IMO. plenty loud and a unique sound that isnt so "flowmaster-ish"

Agreed.

Hike up your skirt and get an o/r midpipe. Keep the stocker to swap back on for emissions, that's what I do. But, I would go with an o/r X to stay away from the flowmaster sound. I have an o/r x with 3 chambers, it's reasonably loud, and doesn't drone at any rpm. I'm still getting rid of them though cause I just can't stand the way any flows sound.

Ive heard great things about moroso spiral flows, I was gonna change to them until I dumped my current setup under the car.....hooker lt's, orH, hooker aerochambers. It's an incredibly badass sound.....I'm thinking of putting in an X pipe purely to see how it sounds.

The stock H is killing you. Get an O/R one like others before me have said, it will help a lot. You can get one for cheap on Summit, under $150 even. Most engine mods change the sound also, new intake, new heads, new cam, new headers and the car will sound much different.

Spintech can be very loud, and sound great, but I never loved them. If you want LOUD the SLPs will make your ears bleed. I recently just bought (Yet to install) a MagnaFlow cat back. They are very quiet at idle, but once you open it up they get loud in a hurry, good for when you are in traffic and want to chat with people lol. If you want something that gets louder with the RPMs, look into the MAgnaflows.

Well i won't bark out a bunch of opinions...cause you'll get plenty of those :D

What i will do is give you 3 video clips of the recent setups i've ran and maybe they'll help you decide.

Here's pretty much an entire MAC setup....full lengths, Pro Chamber and dumped Flowpaths. I ran this setup the longest out of them all and was very happy with it, but i will say i think the Pro Chamber is VERY over rated, and i loved both H and X a lot better.

Lastly i have my current setup, which i honestly will probably never change unless i decide to ditch the full lengths for shorties in favor of more ground clearance. Basically it's the same headers and Dr. Gas X as the first clip with the Bullets, only with Flowmaster 2 chambers cut in half and rewelded, with tail pipes. The video doesn't do it justice....the car really needs to be driving and under load for the mufflers to really sing their song. There's a bit of mild language at the end of this one :D (i also blew a head gasket later this day)

That setup is actually quite tame at idle...which is a surprise. I think it has a lot to do with the tailpipes directing sound out back. Then, the more RPM and throttle you give the car, the more pissed off the mufflers get and it goes from a typical Flowmaster sound down low to a real raspy rippy sound up high. I'm not sure if buying their 1 chambers will sound the same though. The best thing about this setup is that you basically can control the loudness with your right foot. If Johnny Policeman is on your tail, just up shift and drop the RPMs and you'll sound as quiet as any stock exhaust Mustang. If Johnny Ricer is talking smack though, hit the clutch in and tach it up to 5k and he'll feel it through the seat of his car.

Ford factory H is definitely the problem with your system. I put an off-road on my LX back in 88, with the factory mufflers, and did that sound wicked. Now, the Magnaflows are as good as it gets, I think, a friend has their 2 1/2 system on his 93 Cobra, and with converters, it sounds like my old off-road setup. Clean, not alot of resonance. I have a BBK converter X with my two chambers, noisy, sets off car alarms when I start it. Love it.
