Why does it shift out of 2nd so much sooner than it shifts out of first. Sounds good though!

That thing climbs the rpm band very slowly, you should think of swithcing to 4.10's and doing someting with that tranny. YOu said it had a shift kit, but its leaving alot to be desired it sounds like a stock shifting aod.

exactly, your 14 second car is not gonna go anywhere near 130 in the quarter, and how many highways can you get upto 130 on without gettin busted. Dont fear The gear man. A converter would prolly do wonders for your car too.

I know someone will say I am stupid, but a Ford mechanic said this would work and it did. My 89 GT was AOD and at the track I would shift manualy to get a couple extra rpms. If you start in 1st and move it to drive at the desired rpm then wait one second and put it back in 1st it will hold on second until you shift back into D for third gear at the desired rpm. It was good for 2/10ths off my 1/4 mile time (13.9 with bolt ons)

Adding 4.10s gears wont hurt your top end, it will just get you there faster...

Going to be a REAL challenge with 2.73s and an AOD. 2.40 first gear FTL...

Yup...let me learn you on something. You drive an automatic with a tiny OD band and weak servo. With the stock gears you probably shift out of 3rd gear at 120+ and once you do i can almost garantee you arent going any faster than that in 4th gear at lower revs. Just wont happen. So going to a lower gear may actually raise your top speed.

My car used to top out at 140ish with the stock gears. I swapped to 3.73s and the top speed went up to 155. Its all about gearing the car so the motor is in the powerband. 3.73's or 4.10 will absolutely wake your car up....and i think you are being foolish not to consider a gear swap.

the 'ol 1-D-1 trick. ur not stupid, but its not exactly new information to most of the people on the boards, either. its very hard on a stock aod, tho.

and, EscortLXSport: gears, gears, gears dammit! AOD cars need them sooo bad! unless you're planning on making it a salt flats racer, 2.73's are reserved for grocery store trips with yo grandma.

Also to note, the numbers your car ran on the dyno (1/4 mile numbers that) I am going to say will NOT happen at a real drag strip. For one a 2.03 60'... my AOD with 2.73s couldnt snag better than 2.3s, and that wasnt from spinning either, the weak frist gear and 2.73s KILL these cars. Not to mention the gears WILL improve top speed...

lol u must be one of those guys who thinks manual better than any autos being slow is not true. a gt with a shift kit will blow away a manual with pro driver. go to the formus or track and find out for yourself

Umm, give you a shift kit and me a 5-speed... I will drive CIRCLES around that shift kitted auto... Ask me I HAD one in the same car. The first day I drove 5-speed I ran 3 tenths better than the AOD with a converter...

I have 200-300 track passes, you have one dyno run, try not to tell me stuff you don't know about...

Kthnxbye!

Go to the forums? Why, because someone says it on the internet it's true? And how did you win $200 at a dyno day? A Kia showed up?

In order to be able to create a level playing field for all competitors to compete on, we have devised a scoring system for the race that is 100% based on consistency. It does not matter how fast you are (although it does make it more exciting!) it only matters that you react consistently and get down the track (ET) consistently. Points are scored for any variance in ET and the Reaction Time is added back to this score. Breakouts (where you make the pass in less time than you dialed-in at) are awarded double points. Red-Lighting (taking off too early) will get you a one second penalty. The scores for the two passes are added together, and the racer with the lowest score wins (like golf). The racer with the second lowest score gets second place and likewise down the line.

So you bracket raced... means NOTHING about going fast, but I should go check the forums before I post info about DRAG RACING in the real world.
