My new (old)155lph pump rattles

Is that normal? A friend gave it to me for a price I couldn't refuse(free). I take it out of the box and it rattles...sounds like ball bearing in a spray paint can. The pump is a few years old, and I want to make sure it should work before going through the hassle of dropping the tank and all...
