Its been a couple years since I posted on here and its about time I get around to doing some of the things I had been too poor to do.

I have a set of extensively ported D0OE '69 351 heads that were on a car that was running high 10's. They have 1.94/1.60 stainless valves in them. I just picked up a set of crane energizer roller rockers to go with them. I have on the way a set of 3.5" tall valve covers (this should clear the rockers, right?) and an ARP head stud kit.

I am going to order in the next couple of days:
Cam/Lifter set - narrowed down to 3 I think
1. Comp Cams Xtreme Energy FS XE268H-10 (.509/.512 lift, 1600-5800rpm)
2. Comp Cams Xtreme Energy FS XE274H-10 (.520/.523 lift, 1800-6000rpm)
3. Lunati Voodoo 268 Duration (.522/.538 lift, 1800-6200rpm)
Timing Chain - Double Roller
Head Bushings - Trick Flow TFS-51400419
Rocker Studs - ARP 3/8
Push Rods - ?
Headers - CJ Pony Parts ceramic coated tri-y The primary tubes are 1 1/2" , the secondary tubes are 1 3/4" and the collectors are 2 1/2".

The car currently has a performer intake that will be replaced w/ a weiand stealth most likely. Its a 4 speed car with, I think, 3.00:1 gears. The engine is a stock rebuilt ~20k mi. 289 A code with a holley 1850 series 600 cfm carb. It is to be mostly a street car that will be driven less than 5000 miles a year. I want it to be streetable and I also want to run solid 13 second quarters. I have already done subframe connectors, springs, etc. so the chassis/suspension will handle what I want to do. Let me know what you think and if I am forgetting anything.

p.s. I am going to take the heads to a speed shop to be cc'd so I can find out the compression ratio. I will have to pull the old head to figure out if I still have pistons that make the 10:1 its supposed to. Thats the # I want to stay with so the heads may have to be milled some more.

Thanks
Trevor

go with the XE274 (i had the xe268 and went and upgraded to the xe274 and it was a good upgrade) actually better cam selection would be to go with a roller cam the XR 282 comp cam. i have the wiend stealth and i like it but i am going to try the victor jr intake soon. but if you have the cash go with a roller cam right off the bat.

The D0OE heads are '70 heads, but are the same as the '69 heads. Sounds like we have the same heads, mine are '69 and they were on a '65 289 that ran 11.08 in a 3000# car with a Jerico 4-speed and 5.67 gear on 9x30 slicks with a Tunnel Ram and a pair of 660's. It has roller rockers and a solid roller cam. It ended up going into my buddy's '68 coupe and he put on a Victor Jr. with a 600 DP and a home built C4 with 4.33 gears and it went 12.80's off the bat. Pulled the 600 DP and sent it to Pro Systems, bolted it on and it went 12.30's with no changes. Pulled the heads and put some out of the box Canfields and a Funnel Web with a Pro Systems 750 DP (which I think is like 830cfm) and put a PA SuperComp C4 but haven't used the transbrake (28 spline and a mini spool) and it's run some 11.80's on street radials. I think the rear gear is 4.56 now as well.

good info.

1320 stang - sounds like the heads I have should easily be able to make the power that I want. I'm not looking to go very radical on gearing (prob 3.55's) and a stay with a streetable cam - looking like the come xe274. I would think this will get me close to 280-300 rwhp. I figure that with traction should get the car into the 13s and have good street manners.

86bluecobra - thanks for learning the hard (and expensive) way for me. I think I'll go with the XE274. Plan to upgrade to a roller block later on.

Thanks
