Yep its like making it an AODE that the newer fords have, you have control of all 3 shifts..1 stays 1st D becomes 2nd gear...OD becomes 3rd...and you have a switch...to put it in OD in and out...when you go to the track...just shut the switch off so it wont go into OD the shop i use is going to be putting one in for me soon..probbaly after i get my taxes back...hehe....

sweet!! is a valve body also what people call shift kits?? or is this different? i'm kinda lucky because i g/friends uncle builds tranny's, and he said he will do whatever work i want done for free, i will just have to buy the parts..
i'm picking up a b & m hammer shifter today as per a recommendation from 85_SS_302_Coupe

That shifter is a little tricky to get used to...it's sort of like the old school "slap stick" in that the shifter kinda says in one place and you bump it to shift gears. It took a lot of practice before i could get good times at the track, but you get used to it. When i had a C4 in my car i had an old B+M ratchet shifter, which was pretty cool too but may not work with the console.

when i get it i will take lots of pictures and will let you know all about the install. I took my friends 89 gt out last night and all i know that's done to the car is a valve body (unsure of brand) and a mild cam. I did the 1-2-1 shuffle and in second at about 45mph his tires broke loose and we got sideways.. it was pretty awesome

Imagine that with a hard powershift into 3rd going a good clip faster...

Ok ok Ill stop, I have seen some stock looking installs on some fast cars (autos) and to me they look the best!

The Hammer is just funny how it shifts...like i said, the shifter pretty much stays in the same place, as opposed to the stocker which goes forward and backwards a few inches and stays there when it's in gear...the hammer doesn't stay "down" when you put it in 1st...you just kinda toggle it down. It's weird but cool too.

ah, didn't realize you were an auto. With that being said your times and mph aren't bad. Mine before the 5 speed swap went 14.7@93.x through the aode and after 5 speed swap and no other changes it went 13.9@100.5 on same tires.

I dont think so...I mean a stock AOD yeah maybe but a worked AOD againt a T-5 driver for driver i think the auto wins i dont care how good people say they are you can not shift as good as a AUTOMATIC.....Why do you think all race cars have auto WELL MOST OF THEM...Most racers use powerglides ...so i will stick to my auto anyday...You can be very consistant with an auto vs a stick IMO....

this is my first aod.. i love manual but i love the beauty of just putting it in drive and going..

my friend has a 2000 gt with a bunch of work running 12.7's so i know they can be fast too..

People run autos to be consistant, not necessarily faster. In some race classes you even take a weight penalty if you run a 5 speed. I may not be as consistant as an automatic but i'll put my best shifting up against an AOD any day

Ok...lol we can after winter..Im sure you will beat me but let me get my Lentech valve body and torque convertor in at least.... I know for a Fact back in the 60's probably because they were not great transmissions ,But my Dad used to be in B stock modified something like that...He had a 64-1/2 Plymouth sport fury with a 426 hemi...4spd and a Dana Rear running a set of 5.13's...car was not a street car by no means Fender well headers..2 4bbls...cross ram intake..It was an all out race car..well anyways...He was a damn good driver from what i hear from my Uncles..But he Himself would say an AUTOMATIC torque filte trans would kick his ass...anyday..You can not shift as excat and Fast as a Auto...A built auto i might say... a stock auto trans isnt the best...they have lag and shift sloppy IMO....

I'm not bashing autos...like i said i just like to push myself and my driving ability to the max. The difference is that if i'm not on my game, the auto guy in an equally fast car would take me, so it's all about focus and bringing your A game.

Here's a good example of some 5 speed bangin....anyone think this is slower than an auto?

its common sense that anyone that knows things about cars knows that if you wanna go real fast its best to go with an auto and all that etc,I know that and wasnt insulting auto's. I'm saying for a street car for a young guy you'd be krazy if you like an auto over manual. The fun level of a manual to an auto is no comparison.

VERY TRUE....Im just a little older now and for me i would rather just get in and go...lol....Plus when i get ready to spray i like the auto,A stick you might over rev miss a gear while spraying and if you dont have a window switch set up then KABOOM....lol......and i dont run a window switch i like being in control of it with a button on the shifter...

I would love to put my skill against an auto!

Also to note in a track only car, a proshifted or faceplated manual will shift as fast as you can slam the shifter into gear.

We have an N/A stick shift drag car. Went 9.93 @ 135 the other day. Car would be fun with an auto, but its an ANIMAL with the 4 speed!
