My 4 week aquired Mustang, which is now running great seems to have a dipstick that was just um chopped off, someone just cut it to avoid hitting the main support system in the bottom end. I am going to have to replace the dipstick, and I have a brand new DSS 331/347 level 20 block that a good friend of mine (who was the previous owner of this car) ordered but actually did not need (long story should have not ordered it) the motor is still in the box, wrapped in the original plastic, banded to the original crate with all the paperwork. It has never been touched. So I call DSS, Talk with Tom in which I have spoken with several times and had some very nice conversations with. I start of by telling him that we got the 331 running correctly and that its a great running motor, I thank him for his time and advice, then I mention the cut off dipstick issue, he says oh no biggie you just simply bend the dipstick around the support, I then say great well I am going to have to buy one and I dont really want to risk Jamming one into the crank, why dont I just buy one from you guys, you certainly have more experiance bending dipsticks around the support than I do, He then asks me If I have any spare motors around, and I let him know that I dont, Then he tells me that the dipstick is going to run me thirty to fourty dollars and I tell him thats fine, then he tells me "well the labor to mock up something like that could run up into the hundreds" I am thinking to myself "this guy just told me no biggie you just bend it around the support now its going to be hundreds of dollars? a race engine shop that cant supply me a dipstick for a motor they built? Good Greif ok ok Tom never mind Ill cram a rag into it until it blows the hell up, I have a DSS stroker motor and a DSS stroker block sitting in my garage and you can hook me up with a dipstick even after I am willing to pay you.
Ok next topic, Tom My buddy and I who have been working on this car well he took some bad advice, he was told the 331 in the car at 1800 miles has severe bottom end issues and needed gone back through, so he ordered another bottom end, so he ordered this brand new motor that is still in its original box that has been opened once just to look at the motor, is there any way we could send it back, we are willing to take a hit on a restock, we will pay freight, its still in the original plastic that isnt even punctured we have all original documents, inspect the block if something is wrong with it jutst send it back to us, Tom says well those things can be damaged during shipping (isnt that a freight claim then?) we really cant take it back your best bet is to just take a bath in it put it on the corral or ebay no one is going to give you what you paid for it cut your loses and just try to get rid of it. Good point Tom, 2 DSS products in my garage you cant help me with a dipstick, you just told me to lose my butt on a block and you can bet your ass that my next dime will be spent with Coast high.

Customer service has gone out the window across the board these days.

I dont have any personal experience with DSS but I know of two people locally that have bought 347 short blocks from them and didnt last a month before they had issues. One of these people went though 2 kits before he went another route.

IDK that it would be worth the trouble to try and go after them legally if theyre telling you they wont take it back. Maybe try calling and talking to someone else??

Good luck!

Sounds like your buddy needs to lay off the spend-first-ask-questions-later attitude.

DSS has had a bad rep around here for a while now. Coast High seems to be pretty good, but most people will point you to Ford Strokers, or one of the few engine builders that frequent this site as members.

Also, this thread will probably end up in Talk.
