My trunk was broken into...

... the entire lock piece is missing.

The trunk is closed shut so how can I open it up?


I want to shave the trunk lock and get an remote to open it up.

Whats a good alarm to get?

I lost my keys one time and had to open the trunk in my 65.Just remove the back seat and that cardboard barrier,then get you a 9/16 socket , extension, ratchet, and flashlight.crawl in the back if you can or get a smaller person to do it and remove the two screws holding thelatch to the car.Once you remove the bolts youll see daylight.As for the alarm I like the company that makes the Python and Viper alarms.I cant remember the co. name that makes both of them but do a search and itll pop up.They got a cool remote that (if wired into all your doors,hood and trunk) will show you if your alarm just went off because of a vibration or one of your doors hood or trunk has been opened.Its also got a remote start built in.

The company is DEI. They make most alarms but name them differently. Their most popular alarms like stephen4785 mentioned are the Viper, Python and Clifford. I have the responder Viper with the remote start but I don't think the remote start will work with carbureated (sp?) engines. DEI also has a tracking piece (similar to Lojack) that you can add to any of their alarms for I believe around $700.

The remote start will work with a carb. I recently installed an alarm that I found on ebay for like 100 bucks. It came with remote door locks and remote start. I could have out a remote trunk operator on it also but I didn't really want to mess with it. I should at least install a sensor there however. Anyway you might look at the car alarms on ebay. Most of them like the one I got are not the big name brands, but hey mine works great.

IF the lock is gone, you can put a flat blade screwdriver into the latch and unlock the trunk. Look in the open hole with a flashlight you will see the square hole.
