I'm getting ready to put my order in but I'm still sorta hung on my color choice. I wanted to do the GT500 legend body kit. I was thinking Torch Red because the black gets too dirty and scratches and all, the new silver looks too much like mineral grey, and blue wouldn't look too good with the black and red leather. White with blue stripes also popped into my head but the stripes are cheap stick ons and I dunno if I should actually get everything painted with stripes. Any suggestions? I read the other guy's thread but still had a few more questions. Thanks all.

Oh. Which system is better for like rock music, the 1000 or 500? I know a lot of systems have such high bass that the rock sounds like crap. You know, more of a rap thing?

Cool thanks. But anyway, my order for a GT just got sold to someone who would pay more. Sweet eh? Well now I have a choice of a v6 or no mustang at all. Thats a tough choice for me. A cheapo mustang or something totally different. Any advantages to buying a mustang with basically a Ranger engine?

Way to make friends Pliskin. :nice: With the way you posed that question I would have to advise to do what you want. If you want a GT, wait. No need to settle for a POS 4.0L Ranger/Explorer engine if you have your heart set on a GT. You are the one who will be buying and driving it, so asking us is moot.

Good Luck Bud,

Jennifer

Dang I was kidding. Joke much? I'm not looking to start fights or make enemies. I've been posting for a while now and just wanted some input. I ask opinions so I can base my opinion.

Note the thumbs up and the Rolling eye smiley. LOL It's cool. You will not make enemies, but start "fights" it could. Haahahahaha.

As for basing an opinion, that is a hard call. I still stand on the statement. If you have your heart set on a GT. You should not "settle" for a V-6. Is the V-6 an adequate engine for performance. Yes. Am I personally happy? THRILLED. This is Stang #3 (98 V-6/ 03 GT) I like this one the best for drive quality due to the redesigned chassis and suspension design. The 5 speed AOD is solid with quick open-throttle shift points (I have no comment of the manual as I do not have one.)

I feel the interior could use a little more work, but then again, it is a $19,900 FORD! :) I do not buy the Mustangs for interior bling. This is just not something Ford puts money into and I am not interested in - Function before Form.

If you are looking for a Bad Azs looking car with moderate performance and great potential, reasonable insurance for safety and theft rates (driving record excluded) then the 05 is a great car!

If you want more HP than the V-6 and are unable to wait for a GT, then there are a few other cars that you may want to look into. They will run more $ for the bang and, of course, are not a Mustang, but it really depends on what YOU want.

I won't recommend any of them since I have predominatley been brand loyal and owned mostly Fords.

My 03 Galant had an awesome ride quality. No complaints on it for a sedan that I only had 9 months. I have a friend who swears by her Eclipse. I am not into those types of cars and dislike the new look, but the 2006 260 HP with a Maybach tuned engine doesn't sound too shabby for the price. Has the 05 V-6 and the Acura RSX beat in the performance department. But, I am also a chick and I, personally, think it looks like a chick car! :)

If you want more comparisons, I would highly suggest, looking on the Net and then going and taking some test drives. You may find something you just love. Perhaps a used Vette or Firebird WS6 or even a 03-04 Cobra, GT, Roush 360R, Saleen, etc.

Good Luck Pliskin. I just know I would own NOTHING other than this new Stang. To each his/her own in the pursuit of the ultimate driving machine!

Awesome suggesstions thanks! I'm brand loyal too. Plus I work for Ford. I'm 18 so a lot of good cars are out the window. We have one white v6 with red/black interior premium. Manual. I might pick that up. My dealer that screwed me over said I should buy the v6 to hold me till the gts come in for 2007.

It just seems kinda like a fake mustang. I dunno...I've never owned one. I own a Ranger :)

NO..A fake mustang was the Mustang II with a 4 cyl. :rlaugh:. Or, the old Escort EXP Mustang Wanna-be. You need to consider what a Mustang is and understand that Ford has its LARGEST sales demographic tied to the V-6. If we are talking shear volume sales based on production, than the GT is a wanna-be Mustang. (DON'T YELL FELLAS YOU KNOW I DON'T THINK THIS. I AM MAKING A POINT :D ) Although the current marketing recognition for the 2005 is to the 300HP GT, you need to go back and look at what has made the Mustang, a Mustang. The vehicles that have been sold in the past in large volume numbers have been the smaller displacement engines. In the world of the Mustang Enthusiast, yes, the 6 has taken back seat as a non-performance car. But, in the general population, those who want a sporty looking car with okay performance go to the 6 and therefore consider this product line "The Mustang".

If it makes it easier for you to discern the two then think of them this way - V-6 = Coupe and V-8 = Sports Coupe. They are both Mustangs.

As for the utilization of the Ranger/Explorer engine platform, it is easier for Ford to reduce the various numbers of available engines configurations and make a broadbase utilization on various product models. It is a cost containment factor more than a performance factor.

I respectfully request that you research a little more before making broad generalizations, especially concerning the Stang. Unless you have owned one, you will not know. Do me a favor and test drive the V-6 and compare it to your Ranger. Not the V-8 to the V-6. There is no comparison. You keep making the comparison to your Ranger, so lets make a controled comparison. The 05 Stang has a 3 point architecture rear axle that plants what power and torque it has to the ground in an affective manner. This is WAY different than a truck. Again, if you have not already drove one. Do me the respectful thing and drive one first. Then comment. Thanks Pliskin. :nice:

Ugh, don't get the new Eclipse. If you are looking for performance you should steer away from it. The engine specs look very nice but you have to take into account that it is still a FWD car and is a piggy (it weighs around 3500lbs I believe which is more than our GTs  lol). Since the new model year is coming around you should be able to get '05 cars cheap. Try looking at different cars that interest you and just go out and test drive them. Go for the V6 'stang if you want looks, but there are a lot of cars out there that you can find in the 19k-22k price range that beat it in performance. It all depends on what you want.

I drive mustangs every day all day. Thats all I do. And I didn't mean to generalize and make statements to piss people off...it helps ME think I guess. Well, today for example, I got me in a v6 (Torch red black leather int, standard) and RIGHT after that a screaming yellow GT. Whoa thats such a nice car. (then a brand new Saleen S/C. Or at least it could be cause it has the hood) Anyway, they have one v6 that meets my criteria. Its a Performance white, Standard, black & red interior, IUP, basically everything else. And its real cheap. So I figure I should buy it and keep it for the year then trade it for an 07 GT.

I mean, the v6 is quicker than my Ranger because its a 99 and only has like 160hp, but I just thought it'd be like the cheapy version of the GT. A Taurus with a mustang body on it. Lol please dont get angry anybody I'm just joking and brainstorming.

But if I do get the v6, what could I do with it? I hear CAIs aren't too much of a good idea. I was thinking of adding a dual exhaust, the CAI, and some rims. Would it be wrong of me to throw the GT500 body kit onto the v6?

Thanks all for the help :hail2:

(I would NEVER buy an Eclipse. I'd rather walk. Imports= :notnice: except for those european cars)

Okay, thanks for explaining. I brought up the Eclipse just for a comparison. I would never buy that chili pepper, ugly azse thing myself.

As for the V-6. Why not just wait? Is your Ranger in that bad of condition? From a financial planning standpoint, you would just be better off saving the cash until you can get what you really want. I would assume that the Ranger is not a lease as the 6 years on a lease would be :notnice:. I know you are itching, it happens to me almost every November/December. I roll through cars like most people buy sweaters. Why don't you order an 06, exactly what you want and just wait for delivery?

BTW - for performance on the V-6 - check the V-6 tech section. Me and a couple of the fellas have been brainstorming how to increase HP maintaining N/A to around 300HP. MSP has a S/C thread.

If it makes you feel any better I went out "hunting" tonight. In my area, there is a street that turns into a cruise strip around 10:30pm. Tonight the traffic lights about every 4-5 blocks were down to "stop light function". I made 5 kills. 1 Firebird, 1 Suburu, 1 99-04 V-6 Stang, 1 Nissan Maximum and a BMW 325. I had a few close ones with a few of the "big boys" - a modified 98 GT - we raced from dead stop 4 times. By the 4th he was laughing at my little buggie keeping within bumper distance and gave me props. He sounded like he was getting used to the short shifter and having some "user errors" on the shift. That would be car win - driver needing some work:hail2:, a 99 GT and a 93 GT. The 99 was just about a tie, I laid off early at posted limit. No reason to get a ticket! :nice: So, let's suffice to say that I am out real street racing and this little wanna-be Mustang Gets-Er-Done! Keep in mind driver-skill, apprehension of a ticket and vehicle maintenance and modification have a lot to do with results here. I am just saying as for fun, it is and for looks, it gets plenty of them. I did not see another 05 out tonight seeking kills!

Good Luck Pliskin.

Well I'd be financing about $10k for the v6. I own my truck straight up and could probably sell it for $5k. I figured I could just order an 06 v6 with the pony package and do some mods with that. Then that'd be better for an 07 gt trade. I'm really itchin for a new car. I love mustangs too. I see that Anthem commercial and get the chills. Buuuut, I figured a v6 isn't too bad. A mustang is a mustang. Its sorta like a loaner vehicle till mine comes in :). If im gonna be waiting for an 07 Gt why not wait in an 06 v6?

And I'm DEAD TIRED of being passed by BMW325s. Good kills btw :D . What I could do is get that pony package, GT exhaust and back bumper, throw in a CAI, dark black tint, and MAYBE that GT500 kit. I'll talk to my dealer as soon as the orders begin for the 2006's. They say I should get one this October.

I wanna get at least 260hp or somewhere around there. Just more than the old lady's v6 down the street.

That's my boy! :D Glad to see the change in heart. :nice:

Well, if you are seeking to modify the V-6 to a new level, then come over and join us on the dark side in the V-6 Tech forum. We are well on our way. Nick at Diablo has the Predetor coming out soon for the V-6. SCT already has an X-Calibrator. There are some nice CAIs for the 6 and a less constrictive exhaust will do well. Mike at PowerHouse Automotive LLC has some pretty advanced designs he has been working on. A TT (Twin Turbo V-6). As for the 260 rwhp. We have almost gotten there. Come on in and peek around the threads I mentioned in the previous post. We have some good ideas and strong technical minds brainstorming and it will just be a matter of time until one of us bites the bullet and becomes the prototype tester. :nice:

See you later.

Jennifer

Some guy came into my work and said that he threw on a GT throttle body and got like 30hp. I dont really believe him but he seemed pretty convinced.

and I wouldnt use a TT in MY muscle car lol

To be honest I wasn't really into buying the 6 either but I was buried in my current loan with high intrest. Long story short is that I NEEDED out of this loan. So with that situation and that I was 5k behind on my buy out the 6 was only feasible option.

Anyway ... I got the 6 and I am so happy that I did. Everyday I love the car a little more. I wake up daily pondering the next upgrade. I was kina closed minded about getting the 6. I was one of those I won't own a fake Mustang ppl. Even upon buying it I was thinking what you were. YA I'll buy it then soon as I am ahead on my loan I will trade that sucker in on a REAL Stang.. *LMAO*

Now with all I have learned and all the aftermarket support I see is available. After talking to ppl who really understand the potential of this car. I am thinking I will just own this car in 5 years. I am not pondering trading it in anymore.

But thats just me . I was turned around 360 degrees..

And by the way .. with the dual exhaust on it sounds like a GT anyway.. and only ppl who really know what they are looking at won't realize it's not. oh and IMO it looks better too. I think the plain front grill is much nicer then the fogs in the grill thing the GT has goin on.

Woah, I think I am going to have to disagree with you here. The V6s look kind of boring to me and seem to really be missing something up front. It is just my opinion, but I don't think the V6 stang looks better than the GT, something about them looks too flat.

You have a point, but last time I checked this was a talk section. One member voiced their opinion and I disagreed with it.

Pliskin, about the sound system. I have just the standard system (not the shaker) and it is great for rock music. You may want to add some better speakers later, but I think the basic system is adequete. I didn't feel like paying a couple hundred for a sound system that so many people complain about so I stayed away from the 500 and 1000. The basic system is lacking in bass though (even for rock music) and could do with a woofer in the back.
