picked up a mustang mag at walmart today and seen a shootout between a 06 vette and a 06 roush. vette makes 400 hp, roush makes 415. both cars ran mid to high 12's.

it blows my mind to see $45,000 cars with 400 horse run quarter mile times that a mild NA 306 combo will run. ive seen several 306 cars run high 12s....crazyness

Yeah... they're stock and brand new. Built for comfort and speed and handling. As opposed to the 306 car.

That's like saying a Ferrari Enzo isn't worth $1mil because it "only" goes 11.1 in the 1/4. It's so much more than a quarter mile racer.

Not to mention you could modify those cars and see how they hold up against your modded 306.

Oh wait, there's a Lingenfelter C6 Corvette, with proper traction, able to achieve 9.0 @ 153mph. Is that better for you? 212mph comes up in 27.2 secs. Smoking the tires at 125mph in the 3-4 shift.

It does cost lots of money, but last time I checked, when you go to the dragstrip, they don't ask how much you spent on your car to make it fast.

Different strokes for different folks.

all i was saying was that quarter mile times were very compareable. doesnt take a genius to figure out all the rest

Here's the real factors, tires and weight.
Mags usually use regular tires for their tests, most here that run in the 12's NA use drag radials, there can be .5 in that alone.

The 05+ mustangs are pigs, great cars but far overweight.

The fox mustang, may be the best street/strip car in history, low wieght, lot's of torque.

But a ride in a new one, and you know why people would pay big money. Smooth, predictable, good ride quality.

i will take my fox with suspension mods over a s197 everyday of the week, not really a preformance oriented suspension setup to start with and they weigh more than a sherman tank, $25,000 for a 4000 pound pig with 300 horse i think not

I have driven both a lot (brother owns and 06 and nearly every other family member has a fox) and can say its not just handeling and timeslips... If thats what you want, by all means get the fox, but theres wayy more to it than that. You can actually tell the car is stronger, stiffer and better built.

Its all in what someone wants. I wanted cheap speed and to be different, my brother wanted a new car (loved the new Mustang) and something that looked good and performed well!

It's not as bad as you think.

The Mustang GT only weighs 3500 lbs.

The Shelby GT500 convertible weighs 4000 lbs. With a base price of $46k and 500 hp.

The '40s M4 Sherman Tank weighs 56,000 lbs. With a base price of about $33k and 400 hp.
