Well, after months of deciding on whether or not to go 2v NA, 2v PA, 4v, Ive decided to go NA 2v. I just looked at a set of fully ported PI heads with oversized valves that are new. Got them for 1000 from the owner of Strictly Performance here in houston, whom Ive known for many years. Wow, I never thought I would be doing my third headswap, but I guess I can't get away from the NA 2v seen. The plan

MOTOR

Ported PI's
LT headers and offroad H with stock mufflers dumped
pullies
KN
Tune

Suspesnion and other mods

4.10's
upr upper and lowers
4cyc fox springs front
v8 springs cut a coil in the back
adjustable struts
minor weight reduction
centerline telstar 15x4, 15x8 with bfg drag radials

looking for 290rwhp, and shooting for 12.70-12.80's. Then Ill go for a built motor, k member, hood, and more! Just thought I would share it with yall, let me know if you have any suggestions. BTW, the motor has 110k on it, and I think Im going to leave the stock cams in the car for now. I dont feel like spinning the stock motor to 6500k to see the benefit of cams. The car goes in the second week of January.

Might consider a larger throttle body and ported plenum and ditching the stock mufflers to help open up the intake and exhaust just a little more.

I might try it. The tb alone does nothing. I dyno tested a larger tb on my last ported headswap car though. I tend to shy away from the tb/plenum mod as Im a skeptic.

sweet Winters! it's about time you put some concrete plans down! I'm jealous of your headers, my stuff goes in end of this month - our cars can be buddies, except your heads will flow like 210-220 and mine only 172 with stock exhaust manifolds. 290 is a pretty great goal for stock cams - i hope you make it! I'm not hoping for dyno numbers as much as et's cuz my auto wont put out greats HP number but should be good for some low et's. If you come across some 15x8's or 26x10 or 10.5x 8's ET streets in Jan. let me know (of course if you have some already by then)

thanks doood!:nice: Im not sure about the flow numbers of the heads. He had 3 sets sitting around that are just extra heads. The port work looks top notch, but I hope they are not too hogged out for my application. Over Christmas Break, I might pick them up and take them to a machine shop with a flow bench to see what the actual numbers are. I might change my mind on cams(proboly will knowing myself) but will most likely go with a very mild cam if I even do go with cams. As far as the numbers go, that is a bit on the optimistic side but well see. I agree with not needing a dyno queen either. Thats why I would really like to get my hands on a bullitt intake. Bill Putnam and another top NA guy gained around 2 tenths with it even though it showed little to nothing on the dyno.

Welcome to the plague:D j/k

I have stayed NA and enjoy being pretty quick for it. I think you might as well go with the cams since you will be in there. I put crower stage 3 npi's on mine and reallyenjoy them. My car actually runs better now then it did before mainly because of a spot on tune but it says a lot about the cams. If i were you i would go with stage 2 pi's. My peak is right at 6k and i am sure yours would be a few hundred lower if you were to use them.

Whats the highest hp anyone has gotten out of a streetable 2v? I feel pretty good with mine (291 rwhp on Mustang Dyno).

Good luck

yeah ported heads and stock cams isn't a good combo cuz you only really feel the porting in high rpm's when the unported heads would cause the retriction ported ones free up. Therefore cams proly heighten the gains of a ported head alone, im going Stage 1 n/a which with my plenty of backpressure from stock manifold should provide great down low maintenance of torque and still some high rpm power.
As for those drag runners, i'm not buying wheels and tires for the front, just 15x8's and a 26x10x8 ET street set-up in the back

you should know how skeptical i was about any bolt ons other than exhaust, gears, pullies and tuning, but my vert picked up 1.5 mph consistently with the accufab plenum and tb, i had the smaller size though

I know, third headswap for me kinda sounds like it. My last car I did two swaps on it, blowing the motor twice bc of issues that I would rather not get into. But Im back at it.

338 is the highest I have heard. Houston Performances SVO car back in 2000-2001. He is one of the original members here tough he doesnt post anymore Im sure there are quite a few 320rwhp+ cars running around now. There are a ton of 2v's out there now, and not everybody is addicted to mustang boards that has a 2v.

i think you will have a tough time getting those hp numbers with those mods... maybe its just me... i would probably say 260-270 is more realistic, but 12s shouldnt be an issue, im assuming you are a pretty good driver

HP numbers in my sig, been at 264/299 with a light port job, stock exhaust manifolds, and only a slight increase in timing, with no dyno tune. I think 25hp is doable with LT's, and a tune and given that these heads have more port work on them. But we will see. I did say it was optimistic, but hopefully Ill be close

I didn't read the whole thread but 290rwhp will be tough unless you do something else also. You may need something other than stock cams.

Good luck with the project, hope we meet up one day. I decided to upgrade and hold onto my old car, maybe after sinking all this $ into your car, you will want to keep it a long time.

Keep the thread going and let us know how things shake out Mark!
:nice:

:nice: thanks man! Its good to see that you are keeping the car. I read your thread on the upgrades, and I hope it handles well.

The reason why Im worried about going with cams is that I have had bad experiences with them, with the 10.3-10.5:1 compression and spinning the motor over 6k. A lot has changed since the archaic days of regrinds though
