Napa Fuel injector cleaner

Hey folks. I searched this forum and found some recommendations for this stuff from NAPA that supposedly screwed right in to the fuel rails. It sounded really good but when I went to NAPA, I found the stuff (package of three things about $39), but the guy said I also had to buy some kit to use it. The kit he said was something like $300. According to the clerk, it had a gauge, and a tool to open the one bottle similar to the ones used to open a bottle of freon. Is this right, or is this guy crazy?

It doesnt make sense. Anyone can buy new injectors for that price.

That sounds exactly like a product made by slick50 that I've used a lot where I work. 1st part goes in the tank and the 2nd part you dump into "the tool" then hook it up to any vacuum sorce running directly into the intake. If I remember right the tool was like $50-75 and the solution was $9. Good stuff too

Not sure about the kit part. One can buy a can of cleaner which has a hose which attaches to the Schrader valve. One disables the fuel pump electronics and runs the car off of the can's contents. IIRC, It used to be under 20 bucks for the can and hose, but that was some time ago.

Nope... the guy is not nuts. The whole getup was never really intended for the end consumer. Shops but the thing and use it several times per day (potentially).

Thanks for your input guys. This for an 85 TBI (only two injectors). I think I'm just going try some in the tank stuff and then just replace them if I need to. The car sat for a long time and the whole fuel system is all gunked up. Any suggestions?

try this stuff called berrymans,i only found it at autozone.i read a write up on all fuel injector cleaners that you can dump in the tank and this stuff was rated #1.you can also put it in with the oil before you change it to clean out the crank case and stuff,at least thats what the can says,i never did that.but this stuff works good.

A lot of people like the Chevron Techron also... make sure you get the Concentrate and not the other versions that are weaker. I ran a bottle through my car and it did seem a bit more responsive afterwards.

Sea-foam is the best...you can use it in the oil, gas, or through the vacum(sp?) theres a couple of threads on here about it so do a search

I have used this a long time ago as well. I used to be able to get the can of cleaner from Ford and I just borrowed the hose from a friend of mine. I would unplug the fuel saftey switch at the rear of the car and hook up the can and let it idle off the can for about 5 minutes until the can ran out of cleaner. Then I would unhook the can and hose and re hook up the fuel saftey switch and that was it.

Seemed to work pretty good from what I remember.
