Does anyone know how this stuff works on a regular factory paint job? I used some of it once on the HMMWV and it did wonders, but I haven't tried any on my car yet. Anyone used this before. I know it costs like $17.00 a bottle. My paint is getting dull.

well first, what do you mean by "dull" is your paint just in need of a good waxing, or is the finish oxidized?

I think a little bit of both.... but I dunno. If it is oxidized, it ain't bad. But she is in serious need of a good waxing. I HAVE NEVER WAXED HER!

WTF MAN! ok. They key to any waxing is PREP, just like painting. More than likely your paint is swirled, and marred. The BEST thing would be do buff it out. If you dont have acces to a buffer, I might look into finding a pro to fix the paint. If you would like to do it yourself, you need to invest in some microfiber cloths. If you do the car yourself, i'd start out with a quality wash (a good one is Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo). Wash the car REALLY good, then dry with a microfiber cloth. Then, buy a claybar kit, such as mothers or claymagic. Read the directions on the back of the box, and clay the whole car. Next if your doing this by hand, your going to need to use some kind of abrasive scratch and swirl remover. 3M rubbing compound works good, but is strong, and you ahve to be careful even when using it by hand. It can work wonders, if you use it right. The directions should help you out. Also Meguiar's Scratch X is a good abrasive scratch and swirl remover. Anytime you remove scratches by hand its going to take forever, because you have to "buff" the product outta the paint before you cfan move on. OK, so you got the scrathes taken care of, now you need to "cleanse the paint" A good chemical paint cleaner such as Meguiar's COlor X is a good one, a coulpe coats of this and it'll look sharp. Next i'd apply a coat of Meg's NXT wax, then a coat of Meg's #26. You can apply multiple coats of #26, just wait 24 hours between coats.

All in all, its going to be a big job, you'll need microfibers, and some products to get yoruself started. Its a good investment to get some stuff to keep your car looking clean. As you can see i've spend lots of money on detailing stuff, and reading on autotopia.org, and detailcity.com. They're both great sites and you can learn a LOT about how to keep a car looking A+. Hope this helped.

Correction #26 or any other carnuba wax does not need 24 hours to fully cure only paint sealents like NXT or Mother syntac(sp?) or Ziano. However some carnuba waxes do contain cleaners/solvents which will end up striping off any additional layers making it a waste of product. #26 does not contain any cleaners/solvents strong enough to strip off itself so layering can be done.

Danny is right. Another that requires cure time is Klasse SG. Any acrylic sealant should need that time.
What an expensive hobby.

Danny, you pick products well. I am a CK and Klasse twins type of guy. I dont use toppers but Natty's would probably be my choice.
My MF choice is Patrick's (E.D.) but Ranney's are really good too.

Patricks and Rob's (wcdetail.com) are my current choices. Ranneys are great from what I've read I just don't have the coin to purches his towels yet. Rob can easily sell his towels for more $$ but at 2.50 each (autopia=10%discount)they are the plushes I've seen for the price and tagless to boot.

There is look at the pic I posted the middle bottle is a quality waterless carwash. Using a soft plush microfiber towel just spray a panel and gently wipe away. I've done it many times when I don't feel like breaking out the bucket and hose.

Danny is right on. I feel your pain - I live in Tucson. QEW is your friend. I even just Cali dust and QD when we dont get rain.

Danny: since we are swapping thoughts: I use Mothers QD often. I have Sonus Spritz and Glanz but dont think they are worth the premium. I want to try CK QS.

Thanks for the tip - I will remember Rob's MF's for future use. That sounds much like Patrick's (who also has smoking deals) in that they are great towels, and their price makes it that much sweeter.

Hiss from what I've read while researching on QD's, the difference between QS and Poorboys spray & gloss on light colored cars is no different besides price; cheapest being Poorboys. On dark colored cars QS gives a better shine/gloss then PB this info was given by Scott Peterson owner of specialtymotoring.com who sells both. This was the only reason why I went with S&G and not QS. SeventyMach1 take notes great product info is being swapped to make the beast look great and stand out.

Thanks for the info on difference between QS and PB. I was going to buy the big jug of QS and had not even thought about using somethng else. I am not as familiar with PB's product line as I should be (nor have I been in detailing sites as much as usual). MY buddy (who is a detailing genius) uses a lot of PB's stuff - I need to myself (cuz I have not spent enough money on this stuff).

I am a fan of the CK' products I have tried (I have emailed back and forth with Mr. Glass about his products - compatibility questions I had). I have never found a product which delivers better slickness and an actual change in light reflection than VM. And it is so easy to use, it puts a smile on my face (right before I go nuts applying the Twins).
