i know i may be crazy but our local track closed down for good so i do not race at all anymore. The closest track is a good hour away and for me that is too long of a trip for only an 1/8th mile track. I love the 4.10s but i am not liking them too much anymore for driving around on the streets. I have had 3.73 before but was just wandering if i should get 3.55s instead to make it even better for highway trips. I stop driving it so much on the highway since i had the 4.10s. Just thought it would be a good gear for when i finally get a supercharger also. So has any one done this type of swap? Do all like their 3.55 gears? I plan to find a set in a junkyard out of an explorer and i have a friend that knows how to put them in so cost is not much of an concern for me.

4:10 to 3:55 is a big drop, Imo 3:73 are perfect for a daily driver... but if i havent heard anything bad about 355's either,.. so its all up to what your really want to do... But im +1 on 3:73's~!

depends on how soon you are thinking. Not sure when i am going to get my buddy to pull mine out. he has 3 weeks left in school then he is back in town for a while. I'm not sure how bad shipping would be either?

You won't like the 3.55's coming from a 4.10.
Drastic change in feel.

Just a thought. I'm not going to pull mine out right away but it is on jack stands for the winter.

I wwas alway told that going from 2.73 or 3.27 to 3.55 was a waist of time, might as well go to 3.73's for a to actually feel it. STill waitin on my 3.73's so couldnt tell ya how right that is, but going from a low gear to a any higher gear is going to be a let down in feel. I think you should try to find a car with a 3.73, and a car with a 3.55 and drive em to see which feels better to you. I doubt the gas mileage is an issue for you. You're just wondering about feel, right?

I have had 3.08's on a previous stang.i went from 2.73 to 3.55's and definately noticed a difference and have no regrets.the difference between 3.55's and 3.73's can't be that great one way or the other...about 150 rpm on the highway. With the overdrive 5th you almost can't have too much gear as far as highway rpm but i wouldn't want to do all the shifting required in city traffic with more than 3.73's.That would get old for me perhaps because I'm kinda old.

Just throw on a turbo setup and some 3.27's and you'll have the best of both worlds....really!
