Well, I just got the car a week or so ago (115k, orig. clutch and t-5). On the way home tonight I was taking off from a stop (very easily), and there was a loud pop, and it felt like I was giving the car too much gas and not letting off the clutch enough. Got it going, and soon after the car was idling at 2000 rpm's (in first and in neutral). At this point the clutch was very soft. And even felt like the shifter was moving with barely any effort. I had to get gas, restarted the car, it idles normal, and felt a little tighter however still not right. Anybody have any ideas? I figured the clutch but, I havent had a 5 spd in 4 years (had a fox body), and I never had anything like this. So I really had no experience to go on. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I am very broke, and guess on buying parts right now.

Can you still get the car in gear and is it difficult to get into gear?

Good luck.

Do you think the pressure plate broke? Have you given it the old 4th gear slip test? Note that this might take care of the clutch altogether.

FWIW, normally when I feel a clunk like that, it is a cable starting to go. I have been there and done that on cars and bikes and it is the same. If you point of engagement changed, I would look into the cable itself, as well as the stock quadrant and pawl (if you have them - you might remember those from your fox) are losing their engagement with one another (stripping teeth).

I am just tossing out random ideas that occur to me since it is hard for us to 'feel' what is going on from a keyboard.

Good luck.
