Yes, one side of the starter solenoid is a 12v source, but if you attach anything to it, it's getting juice all the time because the positive battery cable runs directly to it, and if you do that, your battery will drain and it's probably not good for your components either. You can test any of your old wires for 12v juice and if any of them have juice only when the key is turned on and also during starting, then it is fine to use any one of them. I am not sure how the 1 wire alt. swap goes, but if you know how to run the 1 wire, and it does not involve the 3 original ones, then yes the other 3 will just not be used. Good luck!
