Need a New Battery - Recommendations?

I've decided it is time to replace the stock POS battery in my Mustang. Every winter the battery drains itself as soon as the weather gets cold. I have removed the battery from the car, put it on a charger, and while leaving it out of the car it will completely drain itself within 4 days. This ONLY happens in cold weather.

So I've had enough of it and am ready to buy something reliable. Any recommendations of what to get?

A GEL cell battery would be choice especially if you have extra audio equipment. If you're going to replace with a standard then who cares there are only 3 Battery manufacturers in the country that make all 900 different brands so pick one.

To tell you the truth, it's hard to beat mototcraft. I know your having bad luck now. The MC battey's that come new in vehicles last be around 7 years. I would allways replace them with something else and get 3 or 4 years out of them. I've made up my mind to start using MC as a replacement from now on. After the last several years of an off roading hobby, I'm gaining alot of respect for motorcraft parts, I love the MC oil filters and plugs.

I agree. Motorcraft Batteries are great. If not a Motorcraft, I would go Interstate. Have always had great luck with them, and I sell them at my shop because of it.

Optima Yellow top !
They are $189.00 through Summit Racing. I had the same problem with my old '05. The yellow top did the trick.

I'm thinking about changing my battery in my 05gt which is still under warranty until May. Anyone know if will Ford replace the battery under warranty?

not unless its is defective. they wont replace it just because you want to.

khyron. i also have had good luck with interstate batteries. i still have the stocker in my 05, so i cant comment on a battery specifically for this car. i have had interstates in my 71 sit over the entire winter and still crank up in the spring!

I hear nothing but positives from Optima batteries and they're bombproof which is what I like. If i just knew what the difference between yellow/red is I'd be in business.

The Yellow top is a Deep Cycle battery with 750 cold cranking amps and have a reserve capacity of 120 minutes vs 720 cold cranking amps and 110 minutes.

Not saying opitma isn't a good battery, but for the kinda of money thier asking, it better be. Back when I was wheeling alot, the optima was the way to go because of the extreme angles and what not you find yourself in. For a sports car, it's over kill I think. I won't say it's a waste of money but you can get batteries that do the job for alot less. Over the years MC has given me the best service other than opitma, it's still unproven that optima will last longer as I had it for 2 years, but it went with my truck when I traded it in for the fusion.

My battery dies in my 07 after only about 5 days of sitting. I've replaced 1 battery already and still have this problem with a Duralast battery I purchased to replace the motorcraft. Any ideas? It did this even before the UDP install so its not that. I'm going to be installing 3 amps for a killer sound system and am worried I'm gonna have problems.

My idea is that maybe you should have the electrical system checked for a parasitic drain on the battery that is beyond specifications. Perhaps something is not shutting off.

If you are not already turning off the radio with the knob, but are letting it turn off when you open the door, try using the knob.

A Red top Optima is just a replacement type battery with a little more reserve capacity, but like any other battery, the more you kill it, the less of a charge it will take. Either get a Yellow or Blue top optima, they cells have no memory and will take a full charge everytime.I sell a lot of dee cycle witout any problems, Red tops are finiky, and some last, some dont.

Unless your gonna flip your stang over alot just stick with motorcraft, best bang for the buck. I've had both, optima and MC, the optima didn't start my truck any better than the MC, just cost more. The optima has an advantage off road because of the steep angles, bouncing and what not with the gel cells. I guess an optima would be good for severe racing application, hard lauches, power shifting and what have you.
