An passenger side manifold exhaust leak has developed on my 6000 mile new Ford Racing Crate 306. When I first installed the headers with the engine out of the car I bought what I thought were decent quality and correct gaskets. They turned out to be just a hair too small for the large exhaust ports of the GT40-X aluminum heads. Due to their steel core I couldn't just trim them up with a razor so an hour and a few Dremel grinding bits later they fit just fine. To finish it off I used Stage 8 locking header bolts for a little extra security.

Can anyone recommend me exhaust manifold gaskets of high quality that will fit my heads without modification? They will be used with my set of summit racing "el-cheapo" shorty headers that are in great shape and the locking bolts I mentioned. I don't want to do this again for a long time. I plan on ordering from summitracing.com

I found some gaskets that are several layers of aluminum, for a reusable and moldable seal. I got them at either autozone or advanced auto parts years ago, so I don't remember what brand. They had 1 5/8 port size and said that they would work on a mustang, and they did. Great ever since.

Looks good. I'm thinking of also using Permatex Copper spray.

Opinions?

Ordered!

I had a difficult time Googling the answer "Best GT40X Exhaust gasket" or variations thereof so I posted this thread. Maybe I'll post a photo before installation for anyone that happens upon this in the future.
