Well as many of you know i am still on the hunt for a clean fox. I just-so happened to find an 86 GT hatchback with t-tops. I was really wanting a black one but I can settle on a red one. Anyway I was originally looking for an 87-93 because they have fuel injected motors but this 86 happens to have a rebuilt 1990 fuel injected motor and a rebuilt T-5 in it so I am considering possibly buying it since it has the t-tops. It has never been wrecked and has a very clean body and decent paint for its age. It does have a little rust he says under the passenger side door and underneath the driver floor pan where it bottomed out once. This I can deal with since I am essentially looking for a car I can daily drive and work on as a project at the same time.

My question is I know nothing about these 86's, I know the interior is different and the body kit is different but is there anything else that is significantly different on them?

Also how difficult would it be to put an 87-93 GT body kit on it? Does anyone make a body kit specifically for the 79-86 body styles that looks similar?

Anything I should know or watch out for on this particular year? What about since it has an engine swap to fuel injected, what can i look for to make sure the swap was done correct from carbeurated to fuel injection? I thought you had to have a different ECM to make fuel injection work but he tells me that is not true. The guy is a mechanic so I think I can trust his work but regardless I need to know about these things...

'86's were efi. The only difference being a more restrictive head & upper intake.

86 was originally Speed density, did they do the mass air swap with the new powerplant?

Not sure, even if it is speed density thats ok with me. I don't plan on modifying it for a while.

Dont do an aero-nose kit on it. 85-86 are my favorite four-eye. If you want an aero nose just buy one.

DING.....DING....DING.... We have a winner. Do us a favor and do NOT deface a 4eye. Aero cars are everywhere. If that is what you want buy one.

Then put a Saleen lower on it. The 87-89 will fit, but they did make one for the 85-86.
