Alright, so basically I'm looking at a 94 GT, fox is obviously my fav body-style, but I live near Detroit and it's hard to find a low-mile un modded fox around here. So the car is a Yellow 94 GT w/ only 36,000 miles, it has been stored winters and it really shows, I had my friend with a very babied 80K 95 Cobra test drive it and he said it felt better than his car. The seller tells me, he has no problems with it, except that the brakes my need changing soon and a tune-up should be coming up shortly. So I take the car to a mechanic and they find that the weap hole is leaking, the diff is leaking, and the rear main seal has a slight leak "it's not throwing oil" but it has a slight ooze. He says he runs synthetic and changes every 5K miles.

Now the price, the guy wants $9500, which is waaaay to much in my opinion, the mech. said personally to me "I'd take $1500 off, to cover the fixes" I was already going to take 1K off, but with the necessary fixes I nnow should take $2500 off, leaving me to offer around $7000 which IMO still over paying, but a find this good is hard to come buy and it's the premium I will have to pay.

What do you guys think? 9.5K is way over priced, hell 7K might be considered over priced for some of you, can anyone tell me what I should offer him or what would be fair. How common is a rear main leak? I know 37K is almost nothing, and it's hard to tell, but how likely do you guys think it would be for the seal to blow and start throwing oil? Should I risk it?

All help and advice is appreciated

the guys in the SN sub forum might know better. while a bit pricey, that sounds like a sweet car. remember that if you get something else and have to dump $$ into it, vs getting a fresher car requiring less repair work, it can even out somewhat quickly.

my two cents. good luck.

Thanks, the biggest concern is the rear main seal, but if the trans will be out anyway, for a new clutch, then the main won't be a big deal, or as much of a big deal, but regardless it is an oil leak that could potentially throw oil all over the flywheel and sorrounding parts. And even so the KBB is only around 6K and thats if you go in and manually enter the car at being flawless, so if I were to have the car on full coverage (which I won't) and it gets total (which I won't do because I don't drive like an idiot) I would stand to lose around 3.5K instantly. So I will use that point to lower the price.

Any other suggestions or just sinple yays or nays?
