I've had my 4.10's installed for about 6 months now...and ever since I've had them they've whined a bit...especially when I let off the throttle....I know that this was a problem w/ the install....but I had an old friend of mine who was a mechanic do it, and to complain about a free wouldn't get me anywhere....so I've dealt with the noise...my exhaust pretty much drowns it out anyways....now for the question -

What are my options on fixing this?
a. Would a normal mechanic be willing to fix the gears for a cheaper price than a usual install?
b. Is the rear pinion set ruined because of the use after a bad install?
c. Would it be more worth my while just to beef up the rear end because I'm going to have more power down the road anyways?

I'm sorry about the long post, but I'm at a stand still with my mods right now until I fix the little problems w/ my car that bug me....if I go to a built rear end I would need advice on the best setups out there that could handle 5-600 rwhp....cuz I'm going to swap out the block in the future and up the boost

The backlash wasn't set right. If you're just going to beef up the rear later anyway, get everything now if it's livable and do it right all at one time. If there's too much wear on the gears you'd want new gears. Mechanics HATE fixing another guy's mistake.

yeah what eagle said. odds are the "pattern" is set by now so you might want to plan on new gears. Or louder exhaust, more whistle more system.

As for your options. What I like is.
Moser axles.
I like the 31spline tlock but the power levels your talking might consider a better unit.
Main girdle, I have been fighting myself I know they are good and I know they add some bling but the only one I really like is the TA.
of course welded tubes.
Cclip elim's, or the 9" ends not sure I know lots of people do that though.
while your there all new bearings, and seals.

i agree with what BooWFO said and defenately weld the axle tubes and TQ boxes if planning on more power

well I hate to guess in different areas.
but I'll play
tlock, moser axles, ta girdle, welded tubes and boxes, and cclip elims. plus the expendales ie, lube, bearings, install kit. I'd guess around 1500 or so with gears 1700.
