Hey guys, im kinda new in this section of stang net but I need some help. I recently sold my 92 LX Hatch and im looking to buy a New edge GT. The problem is that most of the ones I see in my budget are High milage cars. Im not familair with how well the high milage 2v's run and how long do they last. Ive never had one, Ive had 3 5.0's and a 01 Cobra, never a 2V. Most of the GT's im looking at are 99-2000 models, I dont want a non PI car. Some that I se are in very goods shape with some tastefull mods but they have milage ranging from 90k-110k. How much longer will these cars last? Also I kept the nitrous from my fox and would like to use it on the next car so how well would a high milage 2V hold up to say a 100 shot? I sprayed the hell outa my fox with 147K on it and had no problemsa at all. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks!

I was wondering the same thing, since I have around 130k on my 99 GT 5 speed. I was going to save up for a blower (after my boat motor is finished next month), but was wondering if I should plan on swapping the motor first.

With proper maintenance these motors will last. I have 180k on the 4.6 in my 98 F150 4x4, and believe me she hasn't always been treated well. But I wouldn't be afraid to jump in it tomarrow and drive a few hundred miles. Our GT has 98K on it now and I'm thinking about a blower for it. A hundred extra ponies shouldn't hurt a high milage car if it wasn't abused. That being said, it's hard to know what a used high mileage car has been through. Kind of a gamble, you might get lucky or you get that one that is on it's last leg.

These 2v's are very stout for reliability! Just like someone mentioned on there, these motors get constantly beatin daily in vics, trucks, and other models out there...they can withstand the torture..

Well what it comes down too is the car history, how it was treated. thats all.

the 4.6 2v is probably one of Ford's most durable engines. I work at a Ford dealership and routinely see many of these engines. Our local P.D. beats them like no other, usually get new Crown Vic's when they get close to 80K on them, and 80K of police use is like 200K of daily driver. Also see a lot of Oilfield use here in central Kansas, the pumpers and farmers use the hell out of the F150's, and have seen many come in with close to 300K still going.

It's solid technology, keep the oil clean and filter changed and you won't have an issue.

The nitrous kit for your 5.0 may not work on a 99+ Mustang due to having a returnless fuel system instead of one with a return.

Depends on which nitrous kit you have, but i discovered this when i wanted to put a ZEX kit for a 86-98 Mustang onto my '03

Thanks for the response, makes me feel alot better about buying a high milage car. Im looking at a 01 GT with 106k on it. Car apears to have been well maintained and has a clean carfax.

As for the nitrous its a universal dry kit from DynoTune and should work with any EFI car.
