Need at home instructions for gear install

First question

Do you have a magnetic base dial indicator.
If yes you may proceed.

Do you understand the concept of backlash
If yes you may proceed.

Do you have calipers(dial or otherwise) to accurrately measure pinion depth>?

If you do not know what these terms mean you will need help.

i agree. sorry but.
this is one of the very few things you should not attempt yourself.
by the time you buy/rent all the correct tools for the job. youll be paying alot more than you would a shop to do it for you. plus.. if anything goes wrong in their hands, they pay for it :)

also, it will go alot faster in the shop than solo in the driveway.

good luck with those short gears :nice:

They're steering you in the right direction. The only way you should try this at home is if you have a buddy who 1) has all the right tools (some are listed above, but at various bearing pullers and presses to the list) 2) is willing to help you and 3) has done installs in Ford 8.8 rearends before multiple times successfully. If all 3 of those conditions aren't present, take it to a REPUTABLE installer and write the check. You'll be glad you did. This in one of those situations where it's a world of experts and you need to pay them and let them do what they do.
