They're steering you in the right direction. The only way you should try this at home is if you have a buddy who 1) has all the right tools (some are listed above, but at various bearing pullers and presses to the list) 2) is willing to help you and 3) has done installs in Ford 8.8 rearends before multiple times successfully. If all 3 of those conditions aren't present, take it to a REPUTABLE installer and write the check. You'll be glad you did. This in one of those situations where it's a world of experts and you need to pay them and let them do what they do.
