Alright, heres the deal. I took the timing chain off, retaining plate, dist, lifters and my cam won't come out. It rotates freely most of the time, but then somethimes it will be really hard to even turn. It has not even come out a 1/16 of an inch. Also, sometimes it will wiggle back and fourth a touch and I can hear the cam hitting something. It's like something is in the way.

Also, The car has always ran fine and has never been apart.

#1 piston is at TDC

Please help!

Are you using a long bolt ( 6" ) screwed in the front for leverage??? Makes it easier...it may just be catching on the cam bearings a tad....you may have a small ridge its hung-up on ??
Sounds like you have everything outta the way..
With a bolt in it it still kinda "catches" as your taking it out....sometimes it takes a gentle tug to get it moving...

The hitting you are hearing maybe the backplate in the last bearing hole, keeps the cam from goin out the back of the block. If you can find a long bolt to screw into the end of the cam that will make it a lot easier to handle like mentioned above. Just dont go yanking on it with all your might or you will require new cam bearings.

I do have a long screw in there. That noise I am hearing may be from the plug in the back (I hope). It seemed like it would make the noise when I pulled forward though. As far as it getting harder and harder to turn, I was thinking that maybe that is from a lack of oil. There is probably less and less oil each time I turn it. I really have no clue and am no a happy camper.

It may come out with more force, but I don't want to ruin anything. I have pulled almost as hard as I could pull and it didn't even budge.

Keep in mind, the cam has not moved forward at all. Therefore the main lobes should still be fully in the bearings, so what would be obstructing it??

I sure hope nothing is messed up. I have no room to pull the motor and no time or money to do it.

I can't work on it untill sunday now, so maybe we can figure something out by then.

If you got a high milage motor you may have some oil that has crusted up and formed a ridge which could make it more difficult to pull it through the bearings.

Don't take this the wrong way but.......
you did pull the dizzy......right.

haha. Everyone keeps asking me questions like that. I'm afraid that it isn't something stupid like that.

I never thought about the oil crusting up. I bet that might be the problem. I have 123k miles.

I think I'm going to tap it with a slide hammer lightly and see what happens. It sucks that I have to leave all weekend and wonder now.
