Yeah, your better off getting a chip by someone who knows how to tune. If they dont, dont let them touch the car!
I used to run the full TFS combo (before it was sold as a 'kit') It was great and the car made very good power, I was shocked when I dynoed it after I worked by bugs out. Perfect a/f, it made 304hp/339tq with a cool down. Under the curve was great also. Started making 300 ft/lbs by 3200rpm. That was with gay shorty headers and a small 65mm TB too. I then swapped to an fti cam, no before and after results though as I blew a head gasket a month later on a weak 80 shot. While the car was apart I added BBK lt's and milled the heads .020". I then dynoed it again only to find out I had a bad lean problem (obviously why the head gasket blew) The car made better power in the 2500-3000 range with the new mods, but made nothing more anywhere else and actually made less in some spots. I fully regret swapping in the fti cam due to the massive lean problems it gave me and the money i had to spend trying to cure it. I should have kept my TFS stage 1 cam and added longtubes and a 75mm TB and easily hit 310+hp and better under the curve. Oh well.
Next example, my friends 10.5:1 306. He's got new edelbrock heads (milled with some bowl work) comp xe270 with a 1.7 rocker (.544 lift) a tfs street intake, 70mm tb, 80mm pro m and 30's. he made 323hp/346tq with a chip. Thats with shortys too. I'm still very impressed with his combo. Im sure he'll beat me when we finally run.
Just giving a few examples of non afr/fti combo's.
