Alright if any of ya remember i was gonna scrap the 5.0. And Go with a carbed HiPo 289. Or a built 390. After some good advice from you guys. I realized going carbed was a pain in the arse. And the 390 was better used as a boat anchor. So ive decided to go with h/c/i route. Just wondering what would be the best combo to go with. Also do i have to do anything with the EEC with these upgrade? I plan on Getting a better fuel pump and adjustable regulator. Anything else i should plan on getting?

Is the car a DD? WHat type of setup do you want? Are you keeping the stock bottom end?

The safest answer to your question (because there are a LOT of differing opinions on specific parts) -- get an H/C/I combo that is matched. Whether it's AFR, TFS, or whatever, if you design it right they'll all make good power. The most critical part is making sure everything is designed to work *together*. I strongly believe in custom cams as the core of a good combo. Plus, any of the custom grinders can give you very good advice on how to put together a well running combo.

How much money do you have to spend, how much power do you want, how often do you drive the car?

The bottom end is stock. The car isnt my daily driver. I usually just drive it on the weekends or when ever its nice out. Ive planned on spending around $2500. For now. Id like to eventually get up to around the 400hp mark. It doesnt have to be right off. I can settle with a little over 300hp till my budget gets bigger. I spent quite a bit already on my suspension. And would like a few more ponies to test it out. Would i be better off doing what i asked or just throwin a supercharger on it?

With $2500 to spend, I would get the TFS street kit. About $2100, and includes almost everything you need (down to the gaskets even). You'd still need a 94/95 elbow (less than $100), and ideally you'd want injectors, TB, and MAF to complete the deal. That would push the total over $2500 somewhat.

Look at my sig. A custom cam would pick up a few ponies. The TFS setup would make similar power. I will be getting rid of my 24# and matching Pro-M77 soon and possibly my Cobra Upper. You really need all the little supporting goodies, TB, MAF, injectors, Roller rockers are nice and so on.

Be picky on the combo, The intake should match the flow of the heads and the cam should be well matched too. Big cams do not always mean big power. There are alot of proven combos. The heart being the heads and cam.

good luck

An E cam is pretty old, and the EEC won't like it. If you're going to have to tune the EEC anyway, go with a nice custom cam, the extra cost is well worth it.

Is there any decent cam that i could use and not have to tune the eec? Im not what you would call a electric whiz. Everyone i talked to who had a custom chip burnt had problems.

Just get a foxbody computer and call it a day. get whatever cam u want. Our computer is not as sensitive as ur's. And custom is a good route to go when choosing a cam. but i decided not to go that route cause the TFS kit was everything i needed in one kit and the cost was right up my alley. But the next car will have a 331 and a custom cam so to each his own.

I would NOT do that. Sure, the Fox's computer is a little more lenient when it comes to cams but when it is all said and done, you're still swapping one stock Ford computer for another stock Ford computer. Doesn't make sense to me. Either get a chip burnt or a programmer.

Yeah, your better off getting a chip by someone who knows how to tune. If they dont, dont let them touch the car!

I used to run the full TFS combo (before it was sold as a 'kit') It was great and the car made very good power, I was shocked when I dynoed it after I worked by bugs out. Perfect a/f, it made 304hp/339tq with a cool down. Under the curve was great also. Started making 300 ft/lbs by 3200rpm. That was with gay shorty headers and a small 65mm TB too. I then swapped to an fti cam, no before and after results though as I blew a head gasket a month later on a weak 80 shot. While the car was apart I added BBK lt's and milled the heads .020". I then dynoed it again only to find out I had a bad lean problem (obviously why the head gasket blew) The car made better power in the 2500-3000 range with the new mods, but made nothing more anywhere else and actually made less in some spots. I fully regret swapping in the fti cam due to the massive lean problems it gave me and the money i had to spend trying to cure it. I should have kept my TFS stage 1 cam and added longtubes and a 75mm TB and easily hit 310+hp and better under the curve. Oh well.

Next example, my friends 10.5:1 306. He's got new edelbrock heads (milled with some bowl work) comp xe270 with a 1.7 rocker (.544 lift) a tfs street intake, 70mm tb, 80mm pro m and 30's. he made 323hp/346tq with a chip. Thats with shortys too. I'm still very impressed with his combo. Im sure he'll beat me when we finally run.

Just giving a few examples of non afr/fti combo's.

Your welcome, it will work very well with the KB. The problem will be traction!
Time to get serious about the rear end and your ability to tune it.
