I just rebuilt a 1986 5.0 HO mustang. I put a new Ford racing E303 cam in it ang got the heads reworked. New hyperteutic pistons and all the normal wear items. I also got 19LB Bosch injectors. Removed all egr and emission controls. The problem is that when the engine gets warm it will not idle, it kinda surges and then it burns so rich it will run you out of the shop. I know about speed density vs. maf and this year has the sd with eec-iv. Is there anyway to correct the problem I'm having? I've replaced all sensors: MAP coolant temp, air charge, etc.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

yeah switch to MAF or get the car dyno tuned so a chip can be burnt for it

the SD computer is fighting the cam you have. the tables its mapped with wont work with the cam.

The cam thing is true, but also check all your vacuum lines, make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks have the same symptoms.

Running an E303 with speed density is hit or miss. Some guys make it work, but more often than not, what you have now is the end result. Yanking all the emmissions stuff off prob had something to do with it. More often than not this causes more issues.

Run your codes, SD does not have a CEL so see if there is anything the car doesn't like first. It can also be a vac leak caused by improper seating of the lower manifold. Spray some carb cleaner around the bay and see if the idle perks up.

But my guess is you'll need to convert to MA

I have to agree with these guys. You are going to have to convert to Mass air.
