So if I threw a rod would the car still run? Does anyone think it could be a collapsed lifter? Would I be able to tell by pulling the valve cover?

Oh, thought it was a 97?
Anyway sounds like a couple cylinders are not fireing at all. Can hear them just pumping air. You eaither have some valve dammage (broken lash adjuster or bent valve) or a bad piston and or rod.
Eaither way it sounds like its new engine time

Not a thrown rod, there would be alot of noise or a hole in the block. Rod knock can also be caused by a bad rod bearing or loose/worn rod.

Could that be fixed or does that mean its time for a new motor?

U can most likely rebuild ur current motor. But while ur in there, might as well throw a good crank/rods/piston combo to match ur heads/cams.....

noise

i did not play the video but you can do a compression test,,,,yes it could be a bad lash adjuster, i had a follower fall off caused by a bad valve...and that ran just like you said your is,when mine went, it would idle fine but you couldnt drive it. well around the block but you knew something was wrong...in the end it was cheap to fix the valves vs new engine,,,at least for me in my case,GOOD LUCK

cost

well mine is a dohc and the problem head costed $500 to fix valve and seat ,and weld crack caused from over-heating,,than $300 on the otherside ..i had both of them pressure checked /resurfaced/and a 3angle cut on valves....you can use the head set from ford racing if your not supercharged..they cost around $100..i had too use cobra,gaskets/bolt kit,$525...i saved thousands by doing the labor myself......when my follower fell off i was lucky is got stuck instead of banging around in valvecover...
