Need Help!! Asap

i underwent the process of replacing the t-stat today do to heater not working properly. well when i finnally got the housing off, and the new t-stat in place the bottom bolt wont thread it, i took the new stuff out and housing to see if i could thread it in at all. still nothing, i may have possibly stripped the first 2 threads of the intake manifold. if this is the case whats the easiest way to solve this prob? am i going to have to take the lower intake manifold off? i dunno, im cold dirty and without a car. thanks

Try (carefully) and run a tap into the threads to see if you can clean them up. Worst case, you tap it slightly larger and put a slightly larger bolt in that hole.

Run a tap or a thread chaser through the hole. If it does not fix your heater problem, use a infared temp gague, thermocouple, thermomoter or else to measure the inlet and outletl of the heater core. If they varry it is plugged. Then try and flush it. I've done so with special equipment that puts pressurized watter in. IF that don't fix it replace.

If Michael's suggestion won't work in you case, get a Helicoil kit. The kit will come with a drill bit, oversize tap, installation tool, and helicoil inserts. The helicoil inserts are diamond shaped spring wire that effectively put new threads (same size as the old threads) in a stripped out hole. The kit cost about $15.50. Advance Auto Parts also has them, but did not show any info on sizes or kit contents. Cost is $26 for a kit

got the bolt to thread a little sideways, with some washers, i think that might work. thanks though guys. also the temp gauge reads normal now, but the heat still isnt that warm. crapola
